Arp

2001-10-17 by b0nez6969@aol.com

I just bought my XL-7 and have gone through the manual about 5 times
now. Basically all I am trying to do is take a preset and use one of
the arp patterns that is under the ARP menu. Everytime I try all I
get is nothing...if that. Can someone please help me please. I am
losing extreme patience with this. IF anyone has the time or care to
respond it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What you have to do is go into the edit menu for the individual
preset, if it is a normal preset, when you get to the Arp screen, the
mode will be off. You will have to hit the cursor button to move to
the lower right level and select on, move the cursor back to the
lower left side of the screen and then scroll until you see the mode
screen. From there select pattern mode. Then move the cursor back to
the lower left and keep scrolling until you get to the pattern
screen. From there you can pick any of the patterns available. From
the main screen the arp section should say A:P.

Good Luck,

M2

Sorry everyone for taking up all this room. But i think what is
happening is that MIDI notes are getting stuck when I try to use my
arp patterns. It plays one or two notes then the MIDI light on the
machine stays lit as if something is getting stuck. Yanno. IS it
possible that this could be a issue? I know its not my midi gear b\x
it works great with all my other equipment. Anyone have any feedback?

You have to turn OFF master arp before you can apply arp pattern on individual preset.
1- go to ARP and turn it off
2- Go to EDITPreset > Arpegi>scroll the bottom left to pattern>go w/cursor to right and scroll pattern while playing rubber pads

Maybe he's got a midi loop somewhere? That would bog it down pretty quickly!

the individual preset is doing as long as at the main screen, the A:*
is set to A:P not A:M

It does.....I had the same problem and EMU told me to do that and it worked.

It does what? Please explain in a little more detail because part of
your response agrees and part of it doesn't.

The main screen setting overrides all others.

It does have to do with master Arp. It has tobe switched off, inorder to access arp on an individual preset.

I don't know why they would have changed that. In the time that I
have spent with this box in my travels, it reacts them same as my XL-
1 with the exception of the sequencer. I can assign the master arp
(on)to be a pattern and have an individual preset(not necessarily an
arp preset)edited for it's own arp pattern(on)and then from the main
screen, toggle between the two for different patterns. My master arp
setting has always been default ON and depending on the main screen
setting, A:P or A:M, lets me go back and forth between the two.

Sounds like a midi loop. Make sure that any gear connected to your XL-7
(usually a computer sequencer does this) is not echoing back the information
sent by the XL-7 back into the XL-7.

Re: Arp

Ya you got it Aaron.. Thats what it is. But now what sucks. Is I can
only use the keypads. I cant use my midi controller through cubase
with it b\c when I goto use that output. It does that Midi Loop thing
your talkin about. Would you happen to know how to fix this? And if
anyone happens to get a few spare minutes and are willing to help
me... I have ICQ at 6263627. I would completely appreciate any help
of any kind reguarding this problem. So if anyone can answer this
question for me.... With Cubase ( sequencer) , I have my XL-7 plugged
in through a MIDIMAN 8x. I am using my output for my XL-7 on OUT3.
With thru on to gain access to my MIDI controller. But, when I want
to use my MIDI controller for the preset arp patters or any arp
patterns of ANY type for my XL-7.It will not work. Neither will most
of the touchpads. But, if I switch the OUT channel the XL-7 is on. I
can use the arp patters with the touchpads. So my question is. Is
there a way for me. To make it so I can use my MIDI controller using
OUT3 for the arp patterns. Cuz the touchpads arent my thing. Has
anyone ran into this problem? By the way. I dont have any problems
with my other equipment. Just the ARP with the MIDI controller on the
XL-7. Please help =)

If you have an arp assigned to a preset, switching between A:P and A:M
on the main screen will toggle between preset and master arps for that
track. You don't have to press the Arp button and set the master arp
status to "Status off" to use the preset arp.

Re: [xl7] Re: Arp

2001-10-18 by Sean Wilhelmsen

Here's the scoop. For your setup, you'll need the feature "Local on/off
select". Currently this is not implemented in the XL-7. The Good news
is, it will be including in our next major release scheduled for mid
November. Once you have this feature, you'll need to set it to Local
off. This will shut of the keypads to the internal engine and only allow
the pads data to go out of the MIDI outs. The notes will then pass
through your sequencer and back into the XL-7 playing everything
correctly. Right now you have pad data going the internal synth and the
same exact data passing through your sequencer back to your Xl-7. It
should sound like a flange when you play standard presets, but when
playing presets with arps, cancellation will occur.

Work around for now. When you are using the Xl-7 with a software
sequncer, use another controller (keyboard) to play/record the the Xl-7
presets. Or, when recording unplug the MIDI in cable and reconnect when
you playback.

Disable Midi Thru in Cubase, it's under the Midi options. That should fix it!

rEalm

Ya you got it Aaron.. Thats what it is. But now what sucks. Is I can
only use the keypads. I cant use my midi controller through cubase
with it b\c when I goto use that output.

Re: [xl7] Re: Arp

While we are adding local off, this doesn't seem to be your problem. Can you
list the connections on your studio for both ins and outs? I need three
things: 1) where the output of your XL-7 goes (port #) 2) where the input
into the XL-7 comes from, and 3) where the output of the controller goes.

It should be XL-7 -> In3, Out3 -> XL-7, Controller -> In2 (or something
else). Also, unless you want to record the arpeggiation from the XL-7, you
should turn off arp transmit (third screen in the arp menu). Also, you
should make sure that you have soft thru (MERGE MIDI IN TO OUT, 4th screen in
Midi) to off for both A and B.

MIDIMAXSport 8x8 XL7 In 3 XL7 outs 3out and 4out. Midi controller for
complete setup is on MIDI 8. All I wanna do is record an arp pattern
with cubase. But what ahhh... ). "Also, unless you want to record
the arpeggiation from the XL-7, you

it =)
