OS/Pads function

OS/Pads function

2002-10-02 by gongvibe

Just curious to get any feedback on these ideas:

1) A function that changes the Play Pads to a numeric keypad - i.e.
from C-C: (0 - 9) + (ENTER) + (PLUS) and (MINUS). This for entering
values as an alternative to the wheel.

2) A function that allows assigning PATTERNS to Play Pads

Thank you Posters

Cool idea, but you'd need some type of modifier key too I'd think. The
keypads currently function as a way to enter letters too, which saves me
hours of time renaming patterns and presets.

ahh - thank you rEalm - I was beginning to think that I was the only
one. Years ago I programmed a great device (now extinct) called the
MAPPER to (with the click of a footswitch) change a MIDI keyboard to a
program send device using a layout that was similar to what I described
here. Or, in the case of the XL7, it could be a dual command key press,
or something. At any rate - the MAPPER program was fantastic and
allowed me to do things live that otherwise would not have been
possible - i.e.lightening fast/non-linear prg.changes. We used this
concept for all of the other MIDI players oin the band and from that
point of view it defined the tour.

Back to XL7 - being able to assign Patterns to the keys, and then
switch patterns rhythmically is a great way to create unusual
syncopations and breaks, and from my point of view much easier than the
wheel.

any other takers?

thanks

It's typically called Pattern Call and if you look at our list of OS
suggestions (I posted it again a couple days ago) you'll see it's on
there. I bet we see this in the next OS for sure, all other sequencer
boxes have this.

I hope so too.

Being able to set the pattern-switch-quantize (from 16th note to next-bar to end-of-loop) per button would be a nice extra touch. And of course I want to be able to switch patterns via MIDI...
