I'd always assumed the ROM in the P2500 was just that of the P2000 (which was offered free of charge). >> Also i need more wierds sounds, synth or pad... Forget the ROM's, just get into filter and modulation programming - it'll take a bit longer but will be more rewarding and certainly cheaper. I think people who are drawn to the Command Stations according to ROM preset and sample lists are getting only a small part of the picture. -- nick rothwell -- composition, systems, performance -- http://www.cassiel.com

Yeah, it's actually the ROM from the PK-6, the Pop rom or something. Has
more bts presets I believe.

hhceo wrote: > Anybody know with rom chips will give the best bang for your buck... > I'm looking for more strings, guitars and pianos.. > Someone told me to look into the Composer Rom(ships with the 2500 and > PK6) Yes, the Proteus Pop Collection (sounds from the P2500) would be perfect. Note: it differs from the P2k's 'Composer' ROM by having only four banks of presets (Composer = 8), however they're different with many taking advantage of the arps/beats not natively present in the the P2k. The only similarity between the P2k and P2500 ROMs is the raw instrument waveform list. Also, check out the "Sounds of the ZR" http://www.emu.com/online_shop/byproduct/xl7_shop.html > Also i need more wierds sounds, synth or pad... > I didn't know which to get the XL-1 rom or the Techno Synth > Construction Yard Rom... Hold a sec, you don't want the XL-1 ROM! It's the same waveform set as the XL-7, and all the XL-1 presets are available to load into your XL-7 user banks. For synth/pad, the early incarnation of the TSCY ROM were a little disappointing, but the recent version (or the old one with the downloadable presets from Rob's site) have improved preset-wise to offer more variety and usability. On the downside, too many of similar sounds (eg. kicks, and these funny reverbed half snare/clap things taking up the majority of a bank). Also, some of the cymbals appear a bit quiet. Otherwise, it's a good ROM, better demonstrated with the recent patch additions, and a perfect Construction Yard for concocting your own. Also check out, Beat Garden, and the forthcoming Vintage Collection. > Anybody got and reviews or roms they like best..??? A bit short on time to write too much, but the ROM to make it into all my productions is the World Expedition (sounds from the Planet Earth module) ROM. Perfect percussion elements for tribal/progressive house and whatnot. So perhaps my favourite, but you need to back it with other ROMs/synths for the melody/bass/accompaniment. Phil

In that case, definitely give the X-Lead ROM a go. Many of the patches are quite outlandish so to get the most out of it (and any ROM) expect to get into programming after exhausting your favourite presets. Phil

The Proteus Pop Collection (otherwise known as the P-Rom) has 5 banks, not 4. It's been
several months since I sold my Proteus 2000, though I don't remember it having 8 banks??? Perhaps
you're right though.

The P-Rom has some great electric pianos (not to mention lots of other stuff). Probably the
most varied Rom out there. The Sounds of the ZR is also great... if only for the fantastic piano
sounds. And I am down on the Kurzweil piano sound even!

Perhaps you're right though. Yep, the P2k's definitely 8 preset banks... labeled 0 through 7. Apologies if I got the 'Pop' bank tally wrong. My reference is the P2500 manual that lists only 4 banks (labeled 0 through 3). Perhaps the 'Pop' ROM is different although I assumed they'd be the same, both being compiled for the v2.x OS. Anyone know for sure? Phil

I was told by Aaron that the Pop Rom was the same as the rom in the PK-6,
that's the only info I have. I'll check the banks toniht when I get home.
