Audio question

Audio question

2002-10-02 by pranaearth

Just a quick question here,
While recording with my XL7 SPDIF or Analog out, I can't seem to get
a hot enough signal into Cubase. I'm using an Aark24, and the input
for the SPDIF (or Analog) in is maxed out(in the Aark manager
software). This can't be right, no? My other synths are hot hot hot.
My XL7 is soft soft soft. Any thoughts? Do I have a bad unit? I'm
actually quite frustrated cause now I'm ready to record and the unit
is so quiet I can't get a hot enough signal to record with!
Thanks for your input,
Prana

The SPDIF out is really quiet, Emu have comment before that this is due to
two reasons:

1. They need to leave enough headroom in the digital signal to accomidate
anythign you can throw at it in terms of a full mix. This coupled with
the ability to really get some hot signals when playing with the
filterscut and res (hell, we can clip the analog outs even!), means they
have to have it a bit lower (bad pun).

2. They need to meet FCC (I think it was FCC) requirements on how strong
of a signal is being transmitted. Sean can provide more details on this
one I believe.

Yeah it does suck having a great mix set up and coming in via the digital
outs, and then seeing what a low level it's at. Probably not taking as
much advantage of that 24 bit resolution in my tunes as I'd like, so I
feel your pain. Look on the bright side though, you can still normalize
the signal wih now loss in quality, since there won't be a noise floor
issue to speak of.

Yeah I find the output to be rather low as well in both analog and spdif.
