New end pieces

New end pieces

2002-10-01 by S V G

I remade the end pieces on my XL-7, replacing the black plastic with cherry wood.

I did this upon receiving my latest sound ROM, the World Expedition. This complements my
other three cards, the XL, Proteus 2500, and ZR-76.

I've got a pretty good arsenal of sounds here, though I only use about 10 to 15% of each
sound card. I wish I could have all the usable (to me) sounds all on one card...

Let me know what you guys think of this new addition to the looks of the unit.

Quality! Looks killer, nice one! What's up with the wood on the bottom?
If you made that out of cherry too, it would be so incredible! Great job.

BTW, don't know how much you know about cherry, but if you leave it on the
sun (window sill or something) when you've not playing it, it gets a
really nice deep color to it over time (weeks) that accents the wood
grain. Made a few things myself out of cherry, and that always help to
give it a great look. Just FYI.

MP7 Stand/ New end pieces

2002-10-13 by mbracement

Hi,
Great job on the end pieces! But I need to make one of those stands
like the one you have your XL7 sitting on to improve the viewing
angle. Can you email me some more photos (side and rear) and possible
the dimensions you cut the pieces to? Also whether you used nails,
glue, or wood screws to fasten them. Thanks for your time!!

Hi,

In response to your request for photos, I snapped a few quick ones for you. You can find
them at these pages:

     http://home.attbi.com/~mpreve2/stand2.jpg

     http://home.attbi.com/~mpreve2/stand3.jpg

     http://home.attbi.com/~mpreve2/stand4.jpg

These few photos show most of the details you need to do this yourself. As a woodworker, I
just hastily threw this together for a different purpose (holding my Proteus 2000 at an upwards
angle so that I could view it better). Then I sold that unit and bought the XL-7. I found the by
turning it around, I could see the XL-7 better too. The one thing I would change if I were to
make it again, is that it doesn't need to be as deep as it is. Current dimensions are 17" wide,
11 1/4" deep, and 3 1/2" tall at the back, 1 1/4" tall at the front. It only needs to be 8" deep,
or 8 3/4" if you have a lip on the front to keep it from sliding off. I just used scrap
materials, though if you want it to look really nice, you can use better stuff. I used screws to
hold it together because they are quick, though again, you can just use glue and it will look mo
bettah. I also would make the angle a little steeper so that it would tilt it more. This is
desireable in my setup, mileage may vary.

     Stephen

P.S. If you are not inclined to take on this project, I'll sell you this one for $5 plus
shipping.
