HI

OK , thanks a lot , the new OS is loaded...!! there was a problem with
sysex delay too (i put it on 3000 !!!) and now all works fine... GREAT
just a last question : what is the best way to download a sequence in the
XL7 ??? (You have to boot while holding down enter first ??)

Ok this is kinda tricky.... although it shouldn't be
now that you have the OS Load figured out. I just got
my MP7 about 5 days ago, so I am not "quite" the
expert... But luckily I am a computer tech and things
of this nature I am intuitive about. Now you are
gonna learn how to use E-Loader....., I have a tad bit
to explain.

First, you should familiarize yourself somewhat with
E-Loader's menu. Open the program and browse the top
menu buttons, etc. You will probably notice that
there are a few things slightly more important than
others... but since you have figured out how to load
your new OS, everything should already be in
place(designated midi port, etc.) to load patterns
you've lost, screwed up, or maybe you are just
experimenting....

The sound patterns/banks load almost JUST Like your
OS, but you do a normal boot up as if you are ready to
use the machine. No magic tricks, just press the
power button to turn on your XL7/MP7. How does your
XL7 interface with your PC? I assume that since you
succeeded in loading the OS, whatever cable setup you
used is working great. (You see I have an Audigy
Platinum soundcard on my PC. It has midi ports in the
front....so all I have to do is connect my midi cables
to my pc DIRECTLY, and I am in!!! I know, I am a
cheater...but hey ...whatever works! You simply plug a
Midi cable in the MIDI OUT port on your XL7 to the
MIDI IN port on the device you are communicating with
(your PC/interface device, etc.)

VERY IMPORTANT!!
YOU ALSO HAVE TO PLUG IN a cable from your Midi Out [A
or B port(*I used "A")] on your XL7 into your Midi IN
port of whatever device you are connecting to(Your Pc,
etc).

But all of this should work fairly easy for you since
you have already communicated with your PC once before
to get the OS loaded... but hey, a review doesn't
hurt.

Ok, let's get to the pattern loading....

Eloader has a fairly simple menu, once you get
slightly familiar with the program...and it will only
get easier the more you understand the new OS's menu,
and programming structure of EMU's software ( I think
it is great).

What you need is the manufacturer's CD that came with
you XL7... or if you bought it off someone and they
were a jerk enough not to give it to ya....you can
download the patterns off EMU's website.

Assuming you have the CD you find the folder on it
that says MP7/XL7 patterns, and when you browse
it...you will notice some titles look familiar....,
they are the actual patterns preloaded inside your
XL7...
They do sound different on the PC when you open them
up....but don't worry, once you reload them...they
will have the original preloaded sound.

You basically go to the bank menu on Eloader ....it
basically asks you where to retrieve banks/patterns
from ....using the program you browse your cd, go into
the MP7/XL7 pattern folder, select which presets you
want to reload (all of them if you must)...click on
the add button after you select them, and then proceed
to hit the download button.....

P.S. The browsed items/cd contents will appear to your
left....once selected and you click add, the selected
files will be transferred to the right side of the
split menu....these are the items that will actually
load. If you did any tweaking to any preset files, I
think that those will be lost, as factory defaults are
restored....but hey , if we are doing this, there is a
big chance that is what we actually want to do.

Now sometimes in mid transmission, a download will
fail sometimes after loading 20 files or so..... this
is no worry, although troublesome at times, just
deselect all the patterns above the failed one, keep
the rest selected, and resend your download to
continue.

P.S. If you wiped your soundbanks out, every pattern
that is blank will say " Empty Sequence" so you can
easily tell on your XL7 which patterns loaded and
failed, and they should always remain in sequential
order, so there is no need for you to worry about
organizing the actual download.

Don't feel bad...I wiped out ALL my banks and had to
reload everything....but now my MP7 is customized to
my liking...and I have a much greater understanding of
the box.. Good Luck... let me know if this was not
clear..... perhaps I could give you a phone
call...lol.
