looking for that sound

looking for that sound

2001-10-14 by mikexl7@yahoo.com

I am trying to get that "juno" sound.
The old skoole strings and pads as well as the more agressive type
stabs.

I have searched over the instraments and had little luck in getting
what I am trying to achieve with the XL7. I don't want to go buy a
juno. I have used them and i like em alot but I don't want to have to
cary one around.

Is ther anyone out there who has had better luck at getting sounds
like the juno 106 or the jupiter? Is there a ROM that has souns from
these synths?

Yes i know there two juno sounds in there, #459 and 478.
and if there is a difference between the two than wow that is subtle.

thanks for any feedback on this.

P.S.
I would like to say that I love the percussive sounds in this thing.
The drums in the XL7 totaly kick ass, I have never come across a
better sounding set of samples anywhere. I don't even think of
sampling or using anything elts. I was at a good friends studio
today and we where using a 909 and then went to the XL7 just due the
fact that

A: we are both getting tired of the 909 hi hats
B: we did not have to tweak the eq or spend time setting up the
compressors.

Instead we decided to wright music!

This is the best single peice of gear I have ever used.
As a all around tool for making music this is the one of a kind. In
the past I have dissed the "Studio in a box" to no end and now find
myself atempting to compose an entire set for live preformance in
what takes up 7 rack spaces(this includes an external fx unit) and
it is blowing me away.

I have said it before but I have been using the box all day in
another studio and it just is amasing to take my sequencer and
through it in a back pack and go kick out the beats that will one day
be pressed onto vinyl and sold in many different lands and then just
throw the thing back in the bag and go home.

I got into playing music seriously when i was about 11, I got a drum
kit and spent the next 8 years playing in several bands in many clubs
and halls around toronto.

I gave up playing in bands due to the fact that someone always had
sex with the wrong person and years of work goes down the drain over
night. I have been producing music with electronics for about 8 years
now and not until now have I been able to jam with other people and
now it is finialy a reality.

Thank you E-MU for deciding to create this product Who's idea was it
anyway?

i know that was long winded but I have had the thing for about two
months now and now have a solid opinion on it. That is it folks and
to anyone who is looking for a sequencer that alows you to PLAY your
music this is the one.

Thanks to all that read this for your time.

I have gotten great results by sampling my Juno with the filter wide
open and the res at zero. I end up with Juno wave forms in my ESynth
Ultra. I have that on a flash rom. I let the XL do the filtering
with it's filters (not any filter on the Juno sample) and add chorus.
Results are as good or better than that Juno. As mentioned before
samples of my TB 3030 (Oakley 303 Kit) with the XL filters make a very
convincing 303. Not that a 303 sound has not been totally over done.

I started collecting raw unfiltered synth wave forms a while ago,
using them on my ESynth. They have been migrating to my XL. Works
great. If I had some of Rob's (Papen) spare gray matter, I might make
a commercial ROM out of them.

8-)
