What developments? I thought they dropped support for that wonderful card? Wish they'd make XP drivers! rEalm And also with some of the developments going on in the Korg OASYS land.

I just wish that it had never been turned into an audio card in the first place....the OASYS was originally supposed to be the 'end-all-be-all' of multi-synthesis platform synthesizers. Granted, it still packs a punch, but, not for people who don't want to lug there computers around to every live set they do. From it's original plan, it's "was" destined to put many a great multi-platform synths to shame (k2500's, ex5, and all those big packed full of possibilities with no power to back them up, do it all at once synths). I swear I had wet dreams for a year straight thinking about the OASYS....:(( ByronE -- Whoever controls the media--the images--controls the culture. -Allen Ginsberg

Third-party development has not ceased in the least bit. In fact, it's the best it has ever been. Alex Aliferis/Orwell Digital has released an excellent bundle of synths. The OR-1 is a powerful, complex sample-based step sequencer which I have found very inspiring. Each "step" has its own Filter Type, Cutoff, Resonance, Tuning, Pan and Volume controls, so the results can get pretty wild very quickly. The OR-2 is what he calls a "Spatial Positioning Synthesizer". All I can say is that it is a rich, phat 4 oscillator sample playback synth. You can place the sounds generated by these oscillators, as well as two microphones into a virtual space, and move them around during the course of the sound for some interesting stereo effects. He has also put out some freebies which I have not had the time to try. His stuff is all pretty innovative. Norsez has done it again with his Hera-106 synth. His Hera, Mekla, and the hundreds upon hundreds of Programs created by Scott Harris have kept me up many late nights. Tons of great sonic possibilities here. The sounds get way too many ideas flowing, I don't know where to begin sometimes. And everything is free. I love these guys. Another one I have not tried is the OAS7, which is an emulation of the DX7II (DX7 + filters). I got the DX200 instead, but people like this one and it looks promising. There are more I am sure I'm forgetting. But you get the point. What is so wonderful is that rather than concentrating on emulating classic analog synths down to every last detail, these guys are creating something completely new and fresh. I have never found myself saying, "oh, this sounds like..." when using these plug ins. Mark on 9/9/02 7:39 AM, erik_magrini@... at erik_magrini@... wrote: What developments? Norsez is a sick programmer, good musician too. We did a track together earlier this year in fact... Check out his new VST plug ins too! Pali kills it for delays. rEalm Norsez has done it again with his Hera-106 synth. His Hera, Mekla, and the hundreds upon hundreds of Programs created by Scott Harris have kept me up many late nights. Korg have dropped development (rather than support), but lots of guys are using the SynthKit development system to develop new synthesis models for it. The OasysPCI is a stunning piece of hardware, well worth the $499 and $299 respectively I paid for my two cards. -- nick rothwell -- composition, systems, performance -- http://www.cassiel.com

The OasysPCI works fine in a 2-slot Magma cage, which is how I use it. A Magma plus a PowerBook is a lot easier to lug than anything the size and weight of the prototyp Oasys keyboard. -- nick rothwell -- composition, systems, performance -- http://www.cassiel.com

It was actually built, before they realised that they'ld have to sell them for about $40k to break even on each unit.
