Solid red MIDI In light indicates midi loop?

Solid red MIDI In light indicates midi loop?

2002-06-04 by tommy_trance

Hi,
Does a solid red MIDI in light from the xl7 indicate there's a midi
loop somewhere in my setup or is it normal? I think a steady blinking
red MIDI in light is how it normally should be ?

It would do this if you are sending it MIDI clock...

A loop would imply that both lights would be lit.

...which is not necessarily wrong. Anyone using a MOTU interface with
the XL-7 will see this, since MOTU boxes always echo beat clock out to
all ports.

What interests me is that the MIDI activity lights on the XL-7
actually flicker markedly, when they should be indicating constant
beat clock and nothing else. Then again, I've found that the sequencer
timing in the XL-7 leaves something to be desired.

Nick, as a potential XL-7 purchaser would be interested in your
findings. Could you elaborate pls?

Sure, when I've had a chance to make some timings. The XL-7 is still
sitting in a rack case awaiting unpacking after a gig...

Just for contrast (and in no offense to Nick and his findings), Nick is
the only one on the list with timing problems I believe. For the vast
majority of us it's rock solid. Again, not saying Nick is wrong or
anything, in his particuar set up there may very well be some timing
issues.
