Bugs in preset arpeggiator

Bugs in preset arpeggiator

2002-06-01 by Nick Rothwell

I'll track these down further after the gig, but for now:

* Stuck notes in the sequencer: seems to be a combination of using a
preset with delayed/cycled arpeggiation, and then sequencing that
preset in a pattern. (I'm also using preset cords to change the
arpeggiator settings.) Stuck notes more often than not, depending on
where the pattern playback is stopped. Even when the pattern is
playing, some notes stay on for too long.

* Arpeggiator interval not recalled properly: I'm saving a preset with
interval of 7 (perfect 5th), but when I recall it I get 1 (semitone)
even though the edit page says "7". I edit the "7" and it's fine
again. Saving a preset with "12" seems fine - so far.

All in OS 1.31 btw.

As far as the stuck notes concerned.... I'm sure you've probably
already tried to use the "edit event notes" in the pattern edit
section and set the duration to 0 for each notes as a temporary fix.

...but I don't want notes of duration zero...

>>>Yeah, I'm still trying to find out what EXACTLY is causing the stuck
note thing, as I run into it someties still too. Not a frequently as
before 1.31, but occasionally still. Seems to happen more with arpped
Presets, but I get it on regular ones as well. <<<

(Best of luck at your gig Wednesday too!)

Not using patterns at all, just Mode=random. (Anyway, the extension
interval is a property of the preset, not the pattern, yes?)

Nope, all of the Arp settings (Extension Interval, etc) are part of the
ARP, not the Preset or Pattern. The Preset only referrences Arps (Factory
or User) stored in your XX-7, so if you're not saving the modified Arps to
a new User location (via the Arp menu), then you're losing all of your
changes on power down. Hope this helps...

Extension Interval is a _preset_ parameter (id 1032).

I don't use arp patterns so they might well have their own interval
settings (I don't see anything in the sysex document about arp
parameters at all). But since I'm not using patterns there's nothing
to save. And this still wouldn't explain why the interval parameter
appears to be picked up one program change later than it should; this
smells more like an initialisation bug in the code.

I think one of the guys from E-mu should get definitive on us... :-)
