cubase/midi problem (again and worse)

cubase/midi problem (again and worse)

2002-05-30 by coscon23

alex, eric thanx for clarifying things...

eric... i 've got a midisport 2x4 (parallel port interface)... never
had any problems with it, but after today i don't know if it's broken
or something.

i have to say, i haven't had much experience using the mp7 in a synth
module way (just using the sounds via cubase, not the sequencer). up
till now i just messed with the midi parameters to get it to work.
this being my "intuitive" way of working. (note; this is just a way
of saying i'm not entirely understanding what i'm doing).
but today i got a midi feedback loop which totally freezed the mp7
(cubase wasn't happy either). it took me several on/offs to
understand it was a feedback loop and when i removed the midi-out
from the mp7 everything worked okay.
i can't imagine what i've been doing wrong and i think this shouldn't
be possible. in my process of trying different parameters in the midi
section (midimerge on/off, rechannelizing etc..) i'm sure i tried
them all before and never has this kind of midi feedback occured
before.
anyone else had this problem? which midi parameter settings should i
avoid and which should i use? or is it a cubase/midisport problem?

thanx,

peter.

You should most definately have Rechannelize turned *off*. You should
also have MIDI merge *off* for any port returning to the computer. You
might want local control *off* and keyboard & knobs output midi *on* if
you've got thru on in your sequencer and still want to play stuff on the
XL-7.

Check out page 22 of the manual addendum
<http://www.emu.com/products/pdf/pdf_manuals/xl7/CommandStation131.pdf>
for an example of all the settings applicable. We put this in just for
you (well, maybe not just /you/, but anyone who wanted a one-stop-shop
example of how to set up the box for local and non-local use). =)
