XL-7 import/export sequences bugs

XL-7 import/export sequences bugs

2001-10-02 by sserendipity@newsfeeds.com

I'm at my wits end. It seems like I can't import a sequence into the
xl-7 without a ton of bugs cropping up; tracks don't play, though
their lights will come on, they play but are assigned to the wrong
pad, apparently erasing the original pads contents, the pattern is
the wrong length etc, etc Never a dull moment. There's little rhyme
or reason to the changes either - there's no way to figure out what
will happen the next time.

I'm using logic audio to edit the sequences, and right now doing
nothing more to them than editing the velocities, and removing a
couple of notes. I'm at my wit's end, since writing on the XL takes
10 times as much work as using a real sequencer, but 'fixing' a
pattern that has been exported is so much more work, and messes with
my head.

Perhaps logic is the culprit. Has anyone had any better luck with
other sequencers? I'm thinking about a switch back to Cakewalk
anyway, since I own an older version I could probably upgrade. (Or
perhaps it's time to dust off that old copy of 3.0 instead :>) What
do you guys at emu use?

I'm using Digital Performer. I've had great luck loading Standard MIDI
Files into the Xl-7 created from Performer. You are saving them as Type
1 Standard MIDI files from Logic? Anybody else out there using logic?
What have been your experiences downloading SMF's?

If you send me (offline) an SMF that works and an SMF that doesn't do
what you'd expect, and tell me everything you did in between, I may be
able to key in on the specifics of what is happening.

So far, I've had better luck with with SMFs created in logic than one's created in the xx-7 and massaged in logic and then returned, which unfortunately is what I usually want to do - bounce it back and forth as I build the arrangement.

I'll do what I can to document what I'm experiencing, as I continue developing my production process during composition and rehearsals.

Thanks,

I'll do an import and export, and show you what I get at each stage.

If you refer to last month or even a few weeks back you will see
several post on the import export matter. Dubtribe Soundsystem
is using Logic and reports that there is indeed a bug but there is
a work around for logic. Crazy that DP is working fine though. My
question is when are we gonna see a list editor. we have all
been complining about the import bug for a month yet haven't
seen any word on a fix. whats the deal Emu?

Our next major OS release for the Xl-7 and MP-7 is planned for Mid. November.
It will include quite a few major features and improvements.
I'm not at liberty to give you the "list" of features yet. Ok, one new
feature will be; each track will have its own external program change
menu with both MSB and LSB bank selects.
