really a Beat Generating Monster.

really a Beat Generating Monster.

I am the very proud owner of both an XL7 and MP7. They are great for
Breakbeat. The Ultimate.

I always keep up with www.breaksworld.com and the current reviews.
I'll hear a phatt break I like and then try to out-sick it with my
stuff. Not hard at all. You can make layered beatz on either machine
and screw with quantizing and other recording modes to humanize the
groove, but I don't really find much quantizing necessary. These
machines have a natural loose kind of feel and so it just seems to
happen on its own. I find by careful mixing of layers that You can
build tension and feeling incredibly. That's what makes a Break beat
magickal, is the use of space and tension. That's why a break is
erotic sounding when it's cool.

These machines could really re-write techno in lots of ways. My next
goal is getting some expansions to load up further on available
insanity. Great job, E-MU. These are two of the best investments I
made this year. The factory presets are OK but I really think a lot
can be done from scratch with what is available. That's the
challenge. I can get lost in these machines up to 16 hours in a day
without stopping. Incredible. The polyphony can create textures so
thick that it almost unbearable.

Chaos 9,
              I'm curious to why you bought a MP-7, and a XL-7...could you
not have just bought a XL-7 and then added a Pure Phat ROM card?

an XL-7 + Pure Phatt ROM does not give you the presets, patterns or
songs of a MP-7.

for an explanation why, see my message #270. bummer that no one
bothered replying to my message...

since then i've gone cross-eyed staring at hexadecimal sysex dumps
of patterns but have found the bytes to patch to point at presets in
different ROM boards and User memory. this is maybe halfway to a
solution, assuming there isn't any check-sum to have to figure out
for the sysex dumps.
