Halo keyboard & ZR ROM

Halo keyboard & ZR ROM

2002-05-13 by uwodsi

Hey,
I am looking at purchasing one of the new Halo keyboards which has an
updated Sounds-of-the-ZR ROM, and sent a message to both EMU and
William Coakley regarding the piano presets which had programming
errors in the ZR ROM version. My question and Mr Coakley's response
are pasted below. Would someone from EMU please reply as I have had
no response from a direct email.
Thanks
Peter
pkirkup@...

I am looking at purchasing one of the new EMU-Ensoniq keyboards called
Halo. It has the same soundset used in the Sounds of the ZR ROM plus
an extra bank of presets, and, presumably, a different ROM id number.
At www.williamcoakley.com there are 5 presets to be downloaded that
use the Coakley's Perfect Piano samples in the ROM, apparently
correcting some crossfading that wasn't set up real well in the ROM
presets. I am suspecting that if I try and download the presets into
the Halo, because the ROM id is (presumably) different, it won't work.
Can somebody let me know if this is the case, and if the presets at
www.williamcoakley.com will be made available in a version for the
Halo, with the id numbers changed, as I am going to purchase the Halo
more or less on the grounds that it has Coakley's perfect piano in it.

Mr Coakely's response:
I brought this up to Emu folks at the trade show in January. They were
going to ship me a Halo for tweeking but
stuff like that usually never happens when you think... I still
haven't heard from anyone over there. But all that aside,
they were supposed to have downloaded my corrections and put them
into the unit. I cannot verify if this has
actually been done or not. And since I still don't have a unit to
check, I can't vouch for anything at the moment.

The ID's are the same . You can download the Coakly presets in to the
Halo just fine.

Re: Halo keyboard & ZR ROM

2002-05-15 by uwodsi

Thanks Sean. Sounds good. And thanks for making the manuals
available online - I've read the Halo manual, but I have two
questions:
Why are there 3 buttons on the left hand side of the keyboard where
the other keyboards (PK-6 et al.) have 4? (according to the picture on
the website)?
Can the Halo take XL-7/MP-7/P2500/PK6 etc. ROMS.
Thanks,
Peter

Re: [xl7] Re: Halo keyboard & ZR ROM

2002-05-15 by Sean Wilhelmsen

The Halo has three buttons, since its a P2K Knob layout. Its presets are
more similar to the ZR-ROM than the Pk-6 is to the P2K Composer ROM. Yes
it will playback XL-7/MP-7/P2500/PK6 etc. ROMS just fine.
