XX-6 keyboards

XX-6 keyboards

2002-04-29 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

The new keybaords are pretty nice, though they ship with half the
polyphony of our Command stations. I was particularly impressed by the
keyboard action, it's very nice for semi-weighted. Were it not for the
over redundancy of sounds with that and my XL-7, I would easily get one to
replace my Yamaha CS2x which is for sale BTW if anyone's interested.

Looking at the specs, it seems that the keyboard version is more
along the lines of the single space modules. They(keyboards)do have
a cool feature called the JAM mode which is not in the P*K format.

I played around with the PK-6 in St. Louis and it was pretty fun. I
haven't seen the XK-6 yet but I will be in Dallas this week and have
plotted out where the Guitar Center's are in that area.

I agree.

So, you found a shop with the XK? It hasn't made it to the East
coast yet and I know you are in Chicago. I've called some GC's and
Mars stores in the Dallas area to see but no one has them.

Yeah, my buddy is the pro-audio manager for one of the GC's here in
Chicago, he always calls me when they get new stuff in.

Why not get one with one of the other ROMs then?

Because I can just get the ROMs for the XL-7 and use another keybaord as a
controller, far cheaper than buying a new Emu keyboard. The way I see it,
I've already invested $1k in the Xl-7, and part of the reason I got it was
so I could load it up with new sounds eventually. Getting a new Emu
keyboard wouldn't provide me with enough difference in keybaord action to
justify another $1k for a synth that can play the same sounds as my
current one (XL-7). If I was going to spend money on a new synth, it
wouldn't be an Emu. Probably a Virus KC, going to look at one of those
tonight in fact....

Yeah, it would seem locigal that the West Coast stores would get them
first. Maybe I need to move:)

Later,

Mmmmm Virus, I have a Virus B mmmmm delicious! I was the third person on the west coast to get one, and it's an incredible beast for making your own sounds.
