sysex, prg change problems

sysex, prg change problems

2002-04-26 by coscon23

at the moment i'm busy translating old tunes from cubase to the mp7
for a live-set. i'm having problems with the interaction between the
mp7 and my other gear. strange things are happening concerning my
audity2000... if i change fx on the mp7 and save the pattern they're
in... after coming back to that pattern my a2k automatically gets the
same fx-setup as the mp7. i want the a2k to be able to receive prg.
changes but not the fx.
what i also would really want is to get a2k sysex-data into the mp7,
but when i tried to record sysex from the a2k to the mp7, the mp7
went bezerk... all patterns sounding very wrong... had to restore the
factory multisetup and only after powering off 1 or 2 times
it "behaved" itself again... does anybody know if there's a way to
record sysex in the mp7?
another strange thing... i'm sure i made prg changes in 1 pattern
yesterday, today i worked on another pattern, one moment i had to
erase all kind of shit on all the tracks so i ruthlessly erased
everything but the notes on all tracks (incl. prg changes)... then,
after finishing the pattern, went back to yesterday's pattern to
check and all prg changes were gone... don't know if it got something
to do with what i was doing in the other pattern but i know this
shouldn't be... anyone else lost prg changes or knows what i'm doing
wrong here?

peter.

The sequencer doesn't currently record sysex.

If you send a sysex preset dump from an A2K into an XL-7 you are
actually dumping a new preset into the XL-7 itself, since an A2K preset
is essentially an XL-7 preset - it uses the same sysex message format
(albeit missing some of the newer XL-7 params and assigning a different
Sound ROM ID).

If you really want to put an A2K sysex message into an XL-7 sequence you
can do that by copying and pasting the A2K sysex into a .mid file and
then transferring that over to the XL-7 using E-Loader.

thanx Scott, sounds like a very good alternative to me!
