About the "Welcome" letter - It seems to be so old, it has dead links!!!!

2017-04-09 by smw-mail@...

I just found out from a new/old member looking to rejoin in order to get the XL-7 songs and patterns to reload an XL-7 that the "Welcome" letter has dead links in it.

If I got a Welcome letter when I joined, I don't remember it.  As moderator, I do not have access to edit or replace the letter, but I will look into how it can be done.

Maybe that explains why for years we have had a fairly regular stream of new members who never post anything--usually several a month. Some do join or start a conversation, but most join and then we never hear from them.

This must have been going on for a couple of years!!!!  So, special thanks to the new/old member who mentioned the problem!!!

Steve

PS: I am sending this out as a special notice to try to reach people who may have signed up, gotten the Welcome letter with the dead links, and then assumed the whole forum was dead.

Thanks for allowing me into the group.  As of now I am going to be silent as I have a lot of reading to catch up on now.

Actually, it's not welcome letter or the "you've been approved" letter that has dead links, but the FAQ that goes out to new members ("Command Station Tips and Tricks v102.htm").  The heading (when the file is saved and then opened as an html page) has to the old e-mu site:

http://www.emu.com/index.html

http://www.emu.com/products/commandstations.html

http://www.emu.com/products/xl7/downloads.html

http://www.emu.com/products/xl7/filters.html

All of these are dead--as in 404 dead!!!!

The link that over the years sometimes works, then disapears, then reappears, etc. is:

http://www.creative.com/emu/support/downloads/legacy/

Yup--over the past 5 or 6 years the official E-Mu "legacy" gear site has been off-again, on-again, with it being off sometimes for the better part of a year, IIRC.  That's why a couple of us have hosted the docs continuously since the "legacy" site disappeared for I believe it was the second time.
