Periodic click on outputs

Periodic click on outputs

2002-04-10 by grimleyj2000

Anybody else noticed this? Up until I upgraded the OS I have had my
XL7 connected via SPDIF to my digital mixer. Every once in a while
I would here a loud click/pop over my monitors from the XL7. I
thought it was a clock sync issue. However, since upgrading to the
new OS I have been exclusively using the XL7 with headphones (keeps
my legs warm while sitting on the bed). Sony MDR-7506 Pros to be
exact. Anyway, I am still hearing the pop/click ... OK so only
twice in the last few days. Definitely not as frequently as
before ... but still there.
Justin.

Sorry, I should have made this more clear.
The SPDIF cable is disconnected. The only thing connected to my XL7
apart from the AC cord, are my headphones.

I get that too sometimes (with all the OS's BTW) when the level is too
loud, or I've got some crazy resonances going on in a patch. Try turning
down the volume a bit and see if that helps!

I've noticed clicks and pops as well with some patterns, and it seems
to happen only when I've changed a preset within the pattern. Could
be a sudden envelope(decay)transition? If I replace the preset again
with a more percussive one the clicks disappear.
The new OS is great, BTW. I haven't really used the Beats mode yet
but just the general tightness and improved reliability (no freeze-
ups!)are wonderful.
E-mu rocks!

Actually, any time that I notice the pop/click, the XL7 is not
playing anything ... the sequencer is stopped and no sounds are
being played.

One thought I have on that is this.
This could be a power surge from sompthing being turned on or off in
you house, like a washer of dryer. Is you xl pluged in on a circut
in your house with sompthing like this?

that could be it.\

Re: Periodic click on outputs

I do get clicks all over the place if I combine certain presets
together in a sequence on my P2500. IE; using the following preset
together: If I use preset 000/bank3 "Richness" with 15 other tracks,
and use it again on a second or third track, it happens all the
time. Also if you use a "Lead" category (monophonic) preset in a
multi channel sequence it happens. Try using a polyphonic preset
instead (this was the solution EMU gave me). Yes I did call them to
describe the problem.... It has to do with the presets, not sure what
causes it ! -Steve
