Can I use the trigger buttons to transmit cc like the
thumby button on the launch pad?

I don't think the trigger buttons are designed to send CC's.  I know 
that on my Launch Pad, I can send a midi note # and channel # to the 
trigger buttons, that's about it.  The slider's, mod wheel and thumby 
button on the Launch Pad however, send midi info.
