location for files

location for files

2015-07-31 by Jack Pratt

I am about half way through reading the contents of all the ROM SIMMS that I have access to. [I have all of them other than the original composer from a P2500 as well as four FLASH SIMMs and the SIMM from an Audity 2K]

Unfortunately it seems that I can only upload 100MB of files to the group storage area even though the group can have 2GB of storage. Each ROM image is 32MB plus 1-4MB of presets. So I can't store them all here. Unless someone can alter the storage quota for me for these files.

Can someone suggest a place where these files can be stored? Need a permanent storage of about 1GB. Not keen on drop box or anything like that.

Some groups have multiple "groups" to effectively expand the files area. Xl7II, Xl7II etc. That's how the "band in a box" group does it.

I am a member of a group that has an overflow/secondary group, specifically for user-created patches and other data files related to a particular line of synth gear.  So I think it's a good suggestion.

However, while it might be good to have an "E4B Project" group for the files (and for technical discussions that may be of limited interest here and might interest other groups as well), I am not sure the problem here is of space limit. Here's why I say that: (1) The usage for the entire group seems to be 93 MB. So, it doesn't seem to be a 100MB limit per user.

(2) When I spot checked the *.rar files, it seems that 7-zip finds errors in all but the first file. It could be that 7-zip has a flaw, but maybe not.  (Has anyone else been able to unpack any of the other files?  If so, what program are you using?) But if others have problems, too, the issue could be on the uploading side.

PS: Did anyone look at the materials from Phil Tipping's site?

If you guys are uploading to the yahoo group dumps of the EMU roms, there is a risk that this copyrighted material could get the whole group shut down.

on the xl7 group when I upload I get messages indicating that my person upload limit is 100MB even though the entire group has 2GB of storage space. I don't get the same message when uploading to the P2K group.

SO I suppose I could put about 1GB of stuff in the P2K group file section.

However, copyright is an annoying (but probably valid) concern.

So perhaps a new group without limits on upload size might be the way to go.

I have already uploaded the preset stuff for 16 SIMMs (6 more to come). AFAIK there never was a SIMM number 7 and SIMM number 20 (the original P2500 composer ROM) is one I don't have. So I only have 22 of the 23 available. That will have to do unless someone else has access to a copy.

Will delete these when I make a new group.
