Try load factory presets

thanks for your reply:
1    track levels are all pretty high, oughta work
2    unfortunately there are no patterns in this thing, so cannot compare
3    lost me there, but the presets work (have sound) by themselves
4    the eprom in thing reads proteus 2000 / expansion sound rom / MP-7
the presets in the unit have names like: becky boise / platinum / reaper......

here is a weird thing that goes on since i pushed the patterns from eloader onto the machine:
i get this message: 01A  V127  P00 A:P     ????
                                        (not installed)
if i turn the knob or hit a button, the preset names show up. here is where it get's weird
i made a preset in the first pattern slot (00). the presets will sound in that one, but not in the
patterns that i loaded into the mp7 from eloader, even though they have names and all the info...

tried loading the first 10 patterns again, resetting the  mp 7, same thing

Anytimes a few interfaces MIDi don't send sysex data correctly for partial incompatibilty in sysex data . You can test to change MIDI interface or change to use eloader to USB mode directly.

You can probe to use Exclusive system librarian for works , but eloader works fine

http://www.midiox.com (alternative librarian exclusive system sofware)

and for last, try hard reset for MP-7 (lost your  data) for if error it is in your initial upload, and load banks and patterns from :

here all patterns and libraries an manuals from EMU

i down loaded the mp7 patterns from here https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/xl7/files/Command%20Station%20Data/

i used eloader with a midi man usb to midi converter. not sure how to down load these files without down loader

after screwing around with this and reloading / resetting a bunch of times, here is what i have figured out
before all this started i recorded a small 2 bar pattern. when i go into diagnostic mode and erase stuff, it seems to go away. when i load even one pattern from eloader, or a bunch it does not matter, this pattern i made shows back up !! and it is screwing somehow with all the other patterns. when i clear all patterns and user data, all i have are the presets, no patterns, everything is okay.
when i download one pattern, even say pattern 71 to location 71, it does not work, but ends up sounding like that goofy pattern i cannot get rid of to save my life.

Let me clarify.  Let's say you have your pattern in 000^0. Then you erase all patterns.  Next you use e-loader 1.1 to put a different pattern into 071^0.  Are you saying that the pattern in 000^0 has returned in slot 000^0?

If not, please clarify what "sounding like that goofy pattern" means.

By any chance are you talking about patterns having "the wrong" presets or the pattern itself?

This is a repoint issue for each of the roms. You would need to update each of the patterns referred to by the song first and save them.

I think this is more complicated than it needs to be. I see two issues: (1) How to erase a pattern and (2) How to have a pattern play the "correct" sounds [aka presets].

To me erasing all of the patterns just to get rid of one is a bit much. There are several other ways to do it. Perhaps the easiest is to use the method in the manual: 'To Erase an Entire Pattern: Copy an “Empty Sequence” over the pattern. (Save/Copy menu).' Another method is to use e-loader 1.1 to overwrite the pattern.

There is a problem with the easy method (from the Save/Copy menu): The name of the pattern becomes "Untitled" not  "Empty Sequence." Of course, if you didn't name the pattern in the first place it was already "Untitled" and you would never know the data in the pattern was erased unless you looked at the note or even data in the pattern editor.

I just tried this with a pattern I saved called "Named Pattern." I just filled a 1 measure track with CC data from the knobs and then saved it as "Named Pattern." After I copied an adjacent "Empty Sequence" to overwrite "Named Pattern," I had a pattern called "Untitled" and all the CC data was gone.

To be sure, I powered down then rebooted. (I am using a P2500 with OS 2.00.) Sure enough, "Untitled" was there , but the CC data was still gone.

Does that help?

Steve

thanks for your reply. have been busy at work and no time to turn the thing on to properly respond to the suggestions of yours, Steve or others.
here is what i shared in an earlier post: the eprom in thing reads proteus 2000 / expansion sound rom / MP-7

so this weekend, when i catch up from sleep i will crank it up and follow the suggestions i have been getting

this forum is awesome

i am in denver........

so last night i took both of the units apart. what i found was interesting. so there are four slots, if i remember right. both units had slot 0 open ! now, i would've thought that to be a problem causing error. but since i erroneously erased the patterns in the px7 (came with them) and was able to reload them via eloader,  it makes me think you want to put the 1st rom in slot 3.
lemme explain: three slots, numbered 0 to 3, both machines had slot 3 (fourth slot) open.

also, i have extra roms in the px7, an mrom (same exact presets as in the mp7) and an xrom

so when i scroll through the presets with both machines on, they both go through their own standard presets with the rom name on the right of the screen as "user". then they both repeat their resident patterns, with the mp7 saying "mp7" and the px7 saying "drums". go aaaaallll the way to 127 with the small 3, the mp7 is at the end of its presets, the px7 of course keeps on going through the other two roms.

so that all makes sense and is good, i did not screw around with moving rom cards, since the px7 works perfectly well with slot 0 open, so why go there.

i actually made a doc of all the comments and suggestions you all have been gracious to add, just go to tired plus not sure if everyone wants a post the size of a small car.

just still baffled why the px7 is good and the other one which seems fine had this weird thing going on.
but you know what, i may get back to making music, since the the mp7 was a spare machine anyway.
this all started with the emu syncing well with my (guitar stuff) pigtronix infinity looper pedal, and getting those two to work together is another afternoon of shenanigans.

i really appreciate everyones feedback, this forum is awesome and i will go back to visiting it more often

thanks

Sequencer and pattern storage is an issue though

Storage is not an issue for command stations. The P2K has a DRAM SIMM for loading the ROM information into so that ROM banks (and stuff) are loaded into RAM at system initialisation. If you had too many ROMs some P2K's with only 2 or 4MB of DRAM could not fit the additional ROM banks and so that entire ROM was 'invisible' to the front panel. You could still use it with user presets but not see the ROM ones. If you had 8MB (or 16MB) of DRAM SIMM then there was no issue. On a command station there is an 8MB SDRAM so this was never an issue. Maybe it would be problematic if you had 4 'ROMS' that had 8 preset banks each and other stuff, but we'll have to see about that.

The user information is stored on FLASH memory in the system which also holds the operating system. Different areas, so should not be an issue, but death of the FLASH might show up as an inability to store USER information or change it.

Slots are not an issue since the operating system references ROMS by an ID number which is not related to the slot. (so the same user presets work whichever slot the ROM they refer to is in).

There is no dynamic storage on the ROMs so multiple ROMs do not help with the user presets in any way. The only possible storage on the SIMMs within the P2K/command station is the storage of a bank of user presets into the FLASH preset memory of a FLASH SIMM that has been written in an ultra sampler.

thanks, Matt
may check into that, will let you know what i find out

question: i think it may have been you noting a while back of the lack of storage space in these machines,
so that is why you have no factory presets ? just wondering. also does having more roms in the machine ( my px7 has three) help in that department ?

thanks again
