Looking Good!

Looking Good!

2015-04-05 by scioto123

I'm thinking my MP7 is looking good in it's new home. My new recording studio is almost finished. It's just a matter of making a few more connections and straightening things up. This has been a very long process. 32 channel 8 bus recording console and 16 track 1" analog tape. It should sound very nice!

Nice setup.. Mackie desk?

It will be nice if you can keep the cable runs hidden, but it's not easy, and the spaghetti syndrome always seems difficult to avoid, especially when it comes to giving everything mains.

Will the snake for your multi-track run under the laminate?

FLASH SIMM Progress report

2015-04-06 by Jack Pratt

Well I've spent a lot of time finishing off the PCB layout for the FLASH SIMM.

I've attached the schematic in PDF format if anyone is interested and able to look at it. Before I send away to make it there are a couple of things to do:
1. Check the schematic and footprints
2. Write some CPLD code to check that the design can be made (this should not be a problem)
3. Write some FPGA code to check that the design can be made (this will easily fit)
4. I already have a design for a SIMM reader. I need to make some of these to explore the format of existing SIMMs.

Then I can make some of the FLASH SIMMs and start working on them.

Yes it's one of the US made Makie Consoles. Most of the cables have already been hooked up. The MP7 is hooked up in the photo to the console. The wires are hard to see and thats the way I like it. I still have to hook up the monitors. The snake for the multi track runs along the side of the wall. Its the only cable visible. I wasn't able to run it under the flooring or through the wall. All that aside it doesn't look bad. I'm attaching it to the base board and out of the way. Plus it gives me the ability to move the desk and recorder around if I need to. There will be a second snake running to another Argosy Rack unit that will house more synth and effects units. Almost every piece of equipment is vintage. Not a big fan of the new stuff made in China. Some of my units include a Lexicon PCM80, DBX 160, and Drawmer Ds201. I'm trying to recreate that classic sound found on so many vinyl records. Everything will then be transferred to Protools for editing and the digital domain. Digital is almost necessary now days to get recordings out to the masses. Didgital should be used in conjunction with analog and not as a replacement.

I'm in for at least two. Maybe more, if we can run more than one per machine without them getting confused..

Kickstarter or any other form of pre-ordering is fine with me- even if it takes a year between payment and delivery. Sometimes crazy gear-ninja magic tricks take time, and I wouldn't want any artificial time constraints to compromise the project. No Kickstarter project that I've ever contributed to has happened anywhere near the projected schedule. Everything always takes longer than it was supposed to, and I'd hate to stress out a guy who's doing us a huge favor by having an impatient minority of contributors ask 'are we there yet' every 5 minutes for however long this takes..

Cheers!
Don

@Jack Pratt

Please take our money, start a "Kick starter" project, if you want I can help you with this, in this way you'll see the real potential and you'll be sure your time will not be lost in vain.

What do you think?

Thank you

Yep, 100% agree and also totally on-board with this plan and concept. Happy to help with any organization that is necessary to get things rolling. It looks like Jack has the current technical prowess and interest moving forward on this. Perhaps there are others checking it out here that are equally inclined. Let's find a way to support it and brings this project to fruition.
