Recording BTS triggers

Recording BTS triggers

2002-04-08 by grimleyj2000

I'm fairly new to the XL7 and I'm not sure of the capabilities of
BTS and the sequencer. Is it possible to record a BTS in a
pattern? For example I have a pattern with a BTS preset on track 2,
with a BTS riff assigned to it from the preset edit menu. I set the
channel to 2 and hit record then bring in and out some of the BTS
channels using the trigger buttons. The BTS continues to play after
I hit stop, and until I disable the Audition button. When I hit
play I hear all the elements of my pattern except the BTS.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
- grimley.

As far as I can tell, the Beats function only works when you stick to the channel the beats are on. Switch to another track/channel and it you have a regualr drum kit. If you want to incorporate the beats in your stuff, I think we're going to have to 'resample' them through the midi I/O.
The corrolary question would be - how does one now access a BTS patch without trggering the BTS? Is the only way to do this by disabling the BTS riff in the preset?

What I've noticed when recording parts from BTS presets is that you
have to record the note on and off messages in your sequence. For
example, I'm using a hi-hat pattern from a preset and when the
sequencer is running, I trigger the part(note-on)and when the end of
the song(section)is near, I have to hit the trigger button again(note-
off)or else the BTS sequencer will continue to run.

.........Also, check note G#2 which is your start and stop command
for BTS. Depending on how you have your pads mapped out(octave
selection), if you are recording and hit that key at the end of your
sequence, the sequencer will stop.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I have more fun making my own BTS presets
anyway :) Is there any documentation on the Command Station included BTS
patterns? I'd be curious to see what they actually do, and it would be
easier than the trial and error method I'm using now to make my BTS
Presets...

Erik,

Now that you have OS ver 1.31, you have the BTS "feature", but since
your ROM(ID)was converted by the factory, you won't see them unless
you were to get a basic ROM. If you know someone that has a P1K(X-
Lead/Mo'Phatt/World)module(if they are willing), put their ROM in
your unit and the BTS presets will magically appear since the ID for
those are for a different format unit.

You can also download the BTS presets (actually all the xx1 presets)
adapted to the xx7 rom id from the emu site. Check under downloads in
the appropriate xx7 section.

Ezra,

I think there were a good bit of people on this group who downloaded
those and I don't remember hearing anyone talk about BTS presets, but
what E-MU did was change the ROM ID from those presets listed to the
Command Station ID thus the BTS presets were converted to kits as
listed *below. Correct me if I'm wrong. This question is for people
who have downloaded the XL-1 and Mo'Phatt presets:

Were there BTS presets listed on(in)any of the banks downloaded?
There was no read me file given to see the changes. The same goes
for the 19 arp patterns and 22 presets that were listed at the XL-1
link. It would be nice to know what is going to be downloaded prior
to actually doing it.

XL-1 Preset Banks for Your XL-7

These four banks are from the XTREME LEAD Sound Module. We have
converted the ID of these XL-1 presets to the new XL-7 ID. These new
banks are saved as Standard MIDI Files. They will load into your RAM
banks (0-3) of your XL-7. Before loading, make sure you back up or
save any custom presets you have created. If your sequencer does not
read the file after downloading from Netscape, rename the file
extension to .mid.

Re: Recording BTS triggers

The BTS presets definitely came with the BTS tag on them. I did not
check to see if the audition riff remained a BTS riff as I have been
making my own BTS presets. Even if the riff is different, many of the
BTS riffs have the same name as the BTS presets so it is pretty easy
to match things back up. I will check the riffs when I get home
tonight.

Re: Recording BTS triggers

That's odd that it was done that way because those presets were
released mid last year and the feature to use them was just
implemented. Come to think of it, I was playing around with a P2500
(OS 1.1* which had BTS presets which only seemed to work when
pressing audition)at a GC store in Chicago while testing the new
Midiman Oxygen-8 controller and tried to set up BTS parameters like I
had at home as far as the velocities and trigger assignments and it
didn't work.

Later................

Re: Recording BTS triggers

2002-04-08 by ezra_gold

I think they just converted the rom id in the patch and nothing else.
Either way, BTS mode seems to be a special case of the audition riff
so you would hear the riff whenever you hit the audition button BTS
with new or old OS. However with the old OS you could not manipulate
the BTS mode parts. They were always on. Also note that KIT riffs are
5 parts (4 + bassline) and you can control those parts like BTS
parts. Once again, even in the old OS, they come on when the audition
key is pressed.
