just got the new OS in the box

just got the new OS in the box

2002-04-06 by mikexl7

I have not had a good look around yet but i have to say that I am
very dissapointed to see that the problem with the "arm pattern"
problem is still the same.

I select the next pattern and hit Home/Enter and all my nice tight
sounds all open up for a second or two. This was the main thing
that i wanted to see fixec since the day I got this thing like 6
months ago.

Changing patterns on the fly is the main reason I got the xl7 and
it is still not working properly. My heart is sinking in my chest
as I wright this. I just dont know what to say.

There must be some way to identify which pattern
parameters are causing these problems during live
switching. I was having the same difficulties last
month, but the new OS appears to have resolved the
situation for me and my fledgling set of sequences.

Maybe it's having different effects selected on
switched patterns -- don't know. But it would seem
like Emu engineers would know which combination of the
many things that change between patterns might cause
the "stutter", and then you could work around the
issue.

Perhaps there's a way you could post an example of two
problem patterns to this group, and willing volunteers
could try it out and help diagnose the switching
difficulty.

hi mike

i think forneau may be right. are you changing the fx when you change
patterns ?

im not shure what you mean with open up. is there a timing problem, or do
the sounds sound different (or are even muted) for a short period of time ?
if they are sounding different try not to change the fx. ive experienced
these kind of problems on an old ensoniq ts10 and those muting of sounds
stopped after i used the same fx settings throuh the whole song.

you may also try the new settings in song mode. there you can check out if
the patterns change smooth when you dont change the fx.
just set "EVENT SOURCE" to "fx = 1st pattern only".

yes I am changing fx when I am changing patterns.
Would this tiny peace of controller info cause the problem? The fx
change find there is not a click of any kind or even a glitch it is
very good actualy how the fx change up.

It is the same problem there has always been. When i press the home
enter button after selecting the new pattern the releace or maby the
sustain changes, opens up. It happens for the amount of time the
light flashes on the home enter button after you press it. This
would not be a problem if i did not use alot of very short sounds in
most of my music. Mut making electro and techno alot of my sounds
are SHORT. all the ticks and acid blips and so on just dont take to
this type of slop. Half of the sound it the tight little sounds
that move in and out.

Well after reading your post I took the time to try and delete a few
different things out and the one that seems to be creating the
problem is the program changes.

I go in to the erase events window and erase all program changes and
the problem goes away. But I need the program changes. I feel
kinda ill at this point. This seems to be the most reasonable
request and I just can't seem to get it to work. I have a
twentyseven page addendum reguarding a hole wack of stuff that I was
not worried about (excluding program changes on external
tracks/location 0.000.00 now visable) and all I have been waiting
for is the patterns to switch as it was intended to and it still
don't work.

Thats all fine and dandy but I often change my fx and programs
within one song. So as far as I am concerned at the moment I have
been led on for about 3 months now and there has been a tone of work
done but the very basic need to be able to switch patterns has not
been worked out. I truly hope someone from E-MU, can tell me that i
am missing sompthing here. And i am not looking for a work around
here I mean I just want it to work. Scott, Aaron what the heck is
going on with this?!

If you want I will post the patterns but I feel that it will be
useless due to the fact that the sounds that are acting up are my
own presets.

One very frustrated EMUian.
