Main Jog Wheel

Main Jog Wheel

2014-09-27 by ro_commandstation@...

Wanted a sanity check before I go ahead and order stuff.

The main wheel on my MP-7 and Proteus 2000 both suffer from jumping erratically when moving quickly, so am looking at replacing them.

From what I understand, I can order a couple of them from below, then just desolder the old ones, and add the new ones on? (I won't do it, but I have tech mates who can do the work no probem)

Anything I should be aware of?

I agree with andrew. the only other thing worht mentioning is the encoder is soldered on the top and bottom of the circuit board so desoldering it is somewhat annoying. other than that it is quite easy. i replaced two of them last year  (xl7 and proteus 2000) with minimal soldering experience

Try cleaning it first; that sometimes fixes it.  Otherwise, it is a simple repair if you or someone you know is handy with a soldering iron.

Excellent post that man, and good to know..

Why did you have to make an adapter?  Couldn't you just have put the shaft in the drill chuck?

Ah basically the drill wouldn't fit cleanly on the shaft, since it has a flat surface on one side, it's lopsided, and I wanted everything centered. At a low speed that might be fine, but I didn't try it directly.

BTW, thanks for the tip.  I have an old hand drill (i.e., non-motorized) and tried the technique on my XL-1's main encoder.  No more randomly jumping numbers!!!!!
