ROM select

ROM select

2014-08-13 by rpcfender@...

I wanted to create a Bank select table for the ROMS I have.

This started out as a simple task for me, but it has grown a bit as I thought it might be useful for others.

As I'm sure you know the ROMs are selected in the MSB byte of the Banks select message (CC0) and the LSB (CC32) selects the banks in that ROM.

Looking at the text file in the files area that has the ROM numbers and details about them, it appeared that the ROM number was the MSB.

I tested it using MidiOx to select all the MSB bank numbers with LSB = 0 and patch #8 I discovered that this is not so.
Here are my results from the spreadsheet I used along with the ROM info from the text file.
I don't have the ROMs in red.
Perhaps those with these other ROMs can help me make the list complete?

All the best

Royce

Hi,Thanks a bunch for putting this together. Here are MSBs and LSBs for the ROMs I have that are still marked red (come directly from the Audition MSB, LSB function, but I've used these to make my own patch lists in Cubase, so I know they are correct):XROM: MSB 014, LSBs 0,1,2,3,4 (So same MSB as XL7, although it has one more bank)TeCnO: MSB 065, LSBs 0,1,2,3BEAT: MSB 067, LSBs 0,1,2,3Best regards,Karl

Hey, Royce.  Good to see you again.Compare your bank numbers with those in Eric Bayer's p2k_All.ins. Some of yours agree with his; others don't.  His file contains the instrument definitions for Cakewalk software, but the bank switching values can be found at the end. I don't have all those roms, but the one I have are correct, so I assume all of his are correct. Also, I started a table. I was hoping to get other identifying info from people, but never got enough to revise the table.  Its here in a TEMP folder (in the Files section). Not sure if you want to compile the other info I started to collect (including check sum numbers!), but if you want, I can find the xlsx file I used to make the pdf. Let me know.I am sure in my syxer program I have the ROM IDs defined and could get those to you if you want, but with Eric Bayer's bank numbers, you can just take the zero bank number and divide by 128 to get the MSB. For example:Patch[8448]=E-MU P2k: Advanced Orchestra: Bank 0 (8448) 8448 / 128 = 66I thought p2k_All.ins was here, but I found it quicker in the p2k group.Steve

If you want to provide the CRC number for the TeCnO rom, I'd be happy to add that to my table (Files > TEMP > ROMS.pdf). Also, could you confirm that the CRC number for the XROM is the same as mine? I just assumed that all roms of the same version had the same CRC number, but I never had anyone else check. I was also thinking that the CRC number might be useful to determine which ROM version someone had. Also, if you could provide any other info about the ROM (# of controllers it is designed for, number of ROM instruments, arps, riffs, bts riffs, etc.) I would put it in my table--unless Royce wants to add my info to his bank switching/MSB/LSB table.Steve

Hi Steve
thanks for the heads up about Eric's file.
I have added his entries to the list.
Eric if you about can you confirm what ROMs you have? Thanks
There were a couple of banks more in my ROMs that you missed so I am guessing that you don't have all the ROMs in your list (like me)
The entries that don't agree are the ones that were in red and part of my first guess thinking that the ROM numbers where the MSB of the bank select. Wrong!!!
I have placed the ROMS in ROM number order because of this error. Not sure if that is the best way.
Anyway  only 'Pop', 'Halo' and 'Protean Drums' not found.
I'll have a look at your list.
I will only post here until the list is finished as the P2k doesn't have attachments which I prefer for half build info.
Thanks for helping.
Here is the revised list.
