lfo as a source in preset patchcords?

Re: [xl7] lfo as a source in preset patchcords?

Matt ...

I think there is an EmulatorX manual in the archives. The software certainly makes extensive use of LFOs for the patches and I'm pretty sure the same must be true in the hardware.

Are your referring to using the LFO with a patch cord to program or using the real time controllers to control a LFO?

Anyway, take a look at the EmulatorX manual as it has very clear and detailed descriptions of using LFOs and assigning them to patch cords.

Preset patchcords (global) I don't see in the manual lfo as a modulation source

In the Emulator X3 manual pages 142 to 144 modulation cords. See modulation sources and modulations destinations. The LFO's are there. They can theoretically target or be targeted by almost any other parameter.

I didn't recheck to see if the Emulator X3 manual is in the file archives. Do you have it?

Also, the Emulator X2 Advanced Applications Guide, Chapter 7 has a tutorial on programming patch cords ... at the end of the chapter is a variant using the LFO. There are also a couple of different LFO uses you can find in the index ... I know you know how to use LFOs, but how they are programmed in E-mu architecture, I mean.

The patchcords don't have arpeggiator as a mod destination. Preset cords do but lfo isn't a mod source on preset cords. Anyone can think of a workaround? :(

I have presets which using arpeggiators to create bass patterns and modulating speed of arpeggiator to create interesting variations.  I wish to modulate the speed of the arpeggiator automatically without using real time controllers to automate bassline variations. I was hoping to set an lfo to sync 4 or 8 bars on s&h and then send that to arp extension or arp speed.

It's a bummer, but seems like you cannot do it. There's no internal time-based modulation source in Preset Patchcords, nor any processor which would accept a per-layer source.

What you can do is to use S&H LFO on the layer level to control both retriggering of the sample and pitch. I tried it once (w/o altering the pitch) and it gives an interesting effect, not the one I was looking for though ;-)

And you can do it independently per layer (instant sonic mayhem).

Yeah--the preset patchcords (global) have different sources and destinations from the layer-based patchcords, and sometimes you want to do things that would go from one to the other (such as a layer-level lfo to a global-level arpeggator).

I was going to look around for a workaround, but based on what Bruno says, it doesn't look possible.

I will probably carve out some time to explore it anyway. If I find another workaround that comes close, I will share it here.
