Have you checked if MIDI -> External Song Start/Stop is set to "accepted"?

(Manual Rev. G, page 165)

Bruno

Hello CS adepts!
I'm sending SPP messages from MidiOx to XL-7 and I can't get any response from it. Sequencer in XL-7 was stopped.
Analogical operation works in my Roland MC 307 without problem.
Thanks for any advice.

Another night with manual and problem was located.
XL can't receive SPP messages in non slaved mode.
It works with Ext timing clock only (((((

This is interesting. Clearly the midi implementation chart says SPP is transmitted and recognized, but is only received when synced to midi contact. I don't recall having done anything with SPP and my P2500, but now I am wondering how this might be useful other than slaving it to a DAW. Any ideas?

spp based stutter sounds very sexy

I think it can be even done with any configurable MIDI controller (e.g. BCR 2000). Different buttons sending different SPPs should allow for slicing the pattern. This can be also funny while playing with BEATS mode :D

Re: Why XL-7 ignores SPP (Song Position Pointer) messages ?

2013-06-12 by shadammmm

I was trying to sync XL with MIDIOX yesterday.
Sequencer of XL was in stop mode and it was receiving EXT midi clock.
MIDI clock timing was transmitting from MIDIOX.
XL was receiving SPP, "Continue", "Stop" commands and worked with much glitches and drops in playback.
Same tasks Roland MC performed without any problem.
Is it because weak XL processor?
Can anyone force it work correctly?

*sorry for my poor eeenglish*

By the way.
SPP commands transmitted in XL was very different.
I was trying to switch playback of various bars on the fly.
Is it impossible beacause XL architecture?

I have a question for you or anyone else who has done SPP tricks on a Command Station or P2500. I just assumed SPP only worked in Song Mode, not Pattern Mode. Is this correct? Thanks.

CS equally bad works with SPP in both Song and Pattern modes.
At least I can't force my XL jump on different bars immediately.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I won't be testing it, then.
