Hey guys I have a like new MP7 with 'loading OS' on startup and I can't get the new OS loaded, Any tips on getting this thing working again? I tried to enter diag. mode without avail and tried loading the OS using e-mus software on win 7 64 bit no works!! Thanks in advance for any info!

What OS is on the MP7 now? I haven't tried it, but I would be surprised if e-loader worked with Win7. Do you have access to a Win98SE or perhaps Win XP? Also, do you have a complete round trip midi connection that doesn't block system exclusive commands? It does not go past the loading OS screen so I do not know what OS is on currently. Right now I do not have a Windows XP install. I was using an M Audio fast track to do the upgrade and they recognize the ports fine. Thanks for the response

e-loader doesn't work with anything higher than XP. You can load XP in an instance of virtual box for example, and then load e-loader into that instance, and then make sure you have it recognize your m-audio box. That should work.

I seem to recall one other instance where someone had a hangup like that upon power up. The discussion was either here or in the P2k Yahoo Group. (When I get a chance, I will see if I can find it.) Other than benefiting from the experiences of others who have faced the same problem, my first thought is to suggest you double check to make sure all internal cables, simms, and memory haven't loosened in transport. I can't find the discussion I was looking for, but did find this thread: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/20918 . Not sure this addresses your problem, but it might. You might notice the discussion refers to compression and flashprep. That's why I was asking about the OS. If it were a very early OS, you'd need to prep the flash with a special file. However, since you can't even get to diagnostic mode and can't boot to the old OS, I don't think that's the problem. In the thread, you will see comments from Aaron. He worked for E-Mu on these beautiful babies, so I would pay attention to his words. what is the thing where you hold down a few buttons when you power up and it goes to the diagnostic menu? maybe worth a try? --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Tyler Detweiler <superiorvideo@...> wrote: > > Thanks I will try and run OS loader in Windows XP under a virtual machine > also I will check the thread you linked thanks and I'll get back to you > with updates. > On Mar 19, 2013 4:00 PM, "steve_the_composer" <smw-mail@...> wrote: > > > ** > > > > > > I can't find the discussion I was looking for, but did find this thread: > > http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/20918 . I seem to recall my Command Station (CS) hanging after doing the OS upgrade via eLoader, but then when I tried it a 2nd time, it worked just fine. Make sure you test midi connection between PC and CS first (send sysex or mid sequence or something) so you know connection is good before doing OS upgrade. Also follow the instructions in manual step-by-step, because I seem to recall it being pretty specific about when you press buttons on CS and when you do something in eLoader software. I may be mixing up my gear here, but one of my units can send sysex patches and sequences via USB midi, but needs true 5-pin midi cable (midi interface on PC) for OS upgrade, so make sure you are not using USB midi. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "dutchbeats" <dutchbeats@...> wrote: > > what is the thing where you hold down a few buttons when you power up and it goes to the diagnostic menu? maybe worth a try? > > > > > --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Tyler Detweiler <superiorvideo@> wrote: > > > > Thanks I will try and run OS loader in Windows XP under a virtual machine > > also I will check the thread you linked thanks and I'll get back to you > > with updates. > > On Mar 19, 2013 4:00 PM, "steve_the_composer" <smw-mail@> wrote: > > > > > ** > > > > > > > > > I can't find the discussion I was looking for, but did find this thread: > > > http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/20918 . This may be on the obvious side, but did you run Command Prep? If updating from a very early os version to 2.0, you have to run command prep first.Re: New E-mu MP7 Owner "loading OS" blues

This is where I was going when I asked what OS he was running, but since the CS doesn't boot at all there is no way to tell. I don't know if he can run Command Prep in the machine's present condition. I know Aaron said something a while ago about not running Command Prep under certain circumstances; perhaps it was when it had already been run. If I am remembering correctly, it might not be good to run it. Of course, if the box is totally useless as is, it might be an option. I would want to rule out other things first, though. Let me see if I can find the message. Steve --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, rogers t <winky_dinglehoffer@...> wrote: > > This may be on the obvious side, but did you run Command Prep?
