New to MP-7 trying to send MIDI

New to MP-7 trying to send MIDI

2012-04-13 by alexfcobb

Hey all,

I recently got a MP7. I'm trying to use it as a MIDI sequencer to send clock to my Waldorf Microwave. I have connected them and when I hit the pads on the MP7 I hear sound through the Waldorf. But when I try to play a pattern into it I get nothing. My settings are:

MIDI:
Base Tempo: 120
Chained Patterns: Keep Constant Tempo
Rechannelize Input: Always(?)
Keyboard outputs MIDI: Transmit
Knobs Output MIDI: Transmit
Transmit MIDI Clock: Off
External Song Start/Stop: Accepted
Merge MIDI In to Out: A:Off B:Off
MIDI In Channels: 1-16:A
MIDI Enable:On on all channels
Receive Program Change: On on all channels

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help

I think you need to change the sequencer track to send on the external midi port.

on the manual page 95-96

To Assign Tracks to MIDI Channels
1. Select the pattern you wish to edit.
2. Press the Pattern Edit button.
3. Scroll to the Select Track Changes screen shown below using the data
entry control.
4. Select the desired track(s).
5. Select the desired channel for the track.
6. Select the desired destination for the track.
7. Press the Pattern Edit button again to exit the module.
Each of MP-7‘s 16 tracks can contain multichannel MIDI data. Because
tracks can be routed internally or externally on either of the two MIDI
ports, the MP-7 sequencer can actually control up to 64 separate MIDI
channels (16 internal-A, 16 internal-B, 16 MIDI port-A, 16 MIDI port-B).
Once a track is enabled for multichannel recording you can record into it
using the rubber keypads or external MIDI data.
To Setup a Track for Multichannel Recording
1. Select the pattern you wish to record.
Playback Setup (steps 2-7 set up the track for multi-channel play back)
2. Press the Pattern Edit button.
3. Scroll to the Select Track Changes screen shown below using the data
entry control.
4. Select the desired track.
T01 CHANNEL ASSIGN
Channel: 01A: Dest:both
T01 CHANNEL ASSIGN
Channel: 01A: Dest:both
5. Set the track to MultiA or MultiB.
6. Select the desired destination for the track (internal, external or both).
7. Press the Pattern Edit button again to exit the module.
Continue on to Record a Multichannel Track using the Rubber Keypads…
8. Press the Controllers button and make sure “Keyboard/Knob Channel”
is set to “Basic”. This feature automatically changes the channel of the
keypad to whatever channel is shown in the preset view display.
9. Make sure the multichannel track you set up (step 4 above) is selected.
10. Set the Pattern Length.
Ready to Record
11. Press the Preset View button.
12. Select a preset for channel 01A.
13. Press Record, then Play. Start playing!
Record Channel 2
14. Select channel 02A.
15. Select a preset for channel 02A.
16. Press Record, then Play. Start playing!
17. Continue to record channels.

I didn't step through Nathan's steps, but I assume they are correct. If that is indeed the solution you are looking for, I recommend placing a template pattern at 000^0 that is set up with all 16 tracks (if that's what you want) set to ext for each track's CHANNEL ASSIGN parameter.

Please note: in order to preserve the external assignment, you need to have some data on each track. If you don't when you save the pattern each track without data will return to the default channel assignment.

My basic template [000^0 All Ext] has a CC # 7 at v:127 placed at 001.01.001 for each track, but you can use any data.

I also have a template called 16 Tracks->MultiB. This has CC # 7 at v:127 with each track assigned to MultiB [midi out port B]. 000^0 All Ext assigns each sequencer track to the respective midi channel on midi out port A [T1 is assigned to C01A . . . T16 to C16A].

Hope this helps.

Steve

They ought to be correct b/c the are cut n paste from the manual, assuming OS V2.0.

Good tips too steve!
