MP-7 MIDI Routing and Controls

MP-7 MIDI Routing and Controls

2011-11-11 by ackack1020

So, firstly, thanks to everyone on here (both current and past posters). I've learned a ton by delving into the archives here, and found many helpful posts.

So far I have two questions I can't find answers to;

1. How do I properly connect a hardware MIDI synth? (Keep reading...)

I found these links:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/21979
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/19580
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/20026
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/20115

In my case, I have a Novation KS4 hooked up. MIDI Out of the KS to the MIDI In on the CS, MIDI Out B of the CS to the MIDI In of the KS. Local Control on the KS set to Off, and Rechannelize input to track dest set to Always (in the CS MIDI Menu).

I can successfully play the KS keys to trigger it's own sounds, record in realtime and step mode, and set the channels appropriately while in 4 part multitimbral performance mode on the ks (under the pattern menu as explained in the above threads).

My problem is that while in Grid Record Mode the key I press on the KS isn't selected as the input for the grid. I don't understand why that is, as the other record modes work fine.

2. Can anyone point me towards a step-by-step guide as to how to insert a Program Change at the very beginning of a pattern. I've scoured the manual, and grasp the concept of sending a CC#32 followed by a bank change and a program change (I think...), but can't figure out where in the CS to do this.

Cheers to all for the help so far, and I'm loving the hands on approach to electronic music with this box!

Not sure about the first question I have that issue as well. So I would like to know the answer as well.
Second issue: in pattern edit mode go to events then add an event for that track. When choosing event type choose program change then choose the program u want to change to. You can insert it in the first tick of a pattern and it will change to the program as soon as the pattern loads up and starts playing.
Make sure to change event type to program change in the cs.
Or: my master keyboard (dave smith mopho keyboard) I can turn the program change knob and it will send the program change to the sequencer. If I have local off in the mopho menu then it will (correctly) ONLY send program changes to the cs. If the track i am on in the cs is routed to the channel external that i have the dave smith on then Midi will loop back (correctly) to the dave smith and program change the dave smith.
The program changes work for any synth afaik. They working dave smith mopho for patch change and Roland groovesampler for bank change (on the pad channel) and patch change (on the effects channel).
Sorry if that was confusing please respond for clarification if you are confused at all.
Matt

On Nov 11, 2011 4:39 AM, "ackack1020" <sackley85@...> wrote:

So, firstly, thanks to everyone on here (both current and past posters).
P.s. I think #1 is a bug maybe. Sounds like you've got it mostly working exactly as I do with my dave smith.

On Nov 11, 2011 10:10 AM, "Matt" <somatt@...> wrote:

Not sure about the first question I have that issue as well. Cheers Matt! I haven't tested, but I did see at some point that setting the track destination to "Both" instead of "External" will correct the Grid recording issue, but then the internal sounds are triggered as well...

Will update here if I figure anything out...

Save a preset with no instruments and it won't have a sound to trigger.

On Nov 11, 2011 5:16 PM, "ackack1020" <sackley85@...> wrote:

Cheers Matt!
