MP-7 power supply....

MP-7 power supply....

2011-10-05 by ackack1020

Yes, another power supply topic, but with a twist this time.

Just got a MP-7, loving it so far, very intuitive. I had a scare though...

I've been only using the soft-power button to power on and off, and just last night I went to turn the unit on, and it just sat there for about 1-2 minutes with all the lights on before going to the "loading......" screen and booting normally.

So, after searching and reading on here I saw that was kind of what happens to failing power supplies ( >:[] ) but I also found this little nugget of info - EU owners had higher rates of power supply failures if the hard-power switch was left on constantly (due to ~ 220v vs 120v).

So, I turned that off, and half an hour later booted it up and everything was as normal. Again, this morning, I turned it on by the hard-power switch, and everything loaded as usual.

So, after all that, my questions are....

1. Should I always soft-power down, and then hard-power off, or can I just hard-power off every time?

2. Should I start researching a replacement power supply, as this could be the sign of things to come? (I found the link to powdec, and couldn't discern if there was a compatible option there...)

TIA, and I've got to give respect to the community for keeping things up and running while creative's dropped the ball.

I am glad you mentioned this. For the past 5 or 6 weeks, my soft on/off button didn't seem to be working (P2500). I thought it was wear and that I wasn't pressing it "just right." However, I have noticed that when the unit sits for a while and I then power up with the hard switch, the E-Mu typically boots right away.

Maybe it is a sign of the start of a power supply problem.

Steve

Are there any known aftermarket internal power supplies that will work with the units? I think I might do some sleuthing to figure it out, as I'm not up for jerry-rigging a pc power supply and I don't want to go without the MP-7 now that I just got it and started to get into it.

Side note: I love that I feel like the only thing I can't do with this vs a $1000+ machinedrum is sample.

Side note: get a sampler. Mpc or sp808 or Yamaha Su series or a rack sampler or whatever. Then trigger the samples with the mp-7 for much lulz and good times.

Some day. I'm good without for now though. Just want to learn the CS pretty thoroughly before hooking it up with anything else (my KS4).

If anyone learns anything about a replacement internal power supply, post up, and I'll let everyone know if I figure anything out.

Hi...

I was checking out some other stuff at this store, and notice that they carry the internal power supply and other E-mu parts. As of this writing, it is out of stock, but you might want to contact the store owners or otherwise keep an eye out. I am new to the CS (mine is arriving this week), so I have yet to order anything from this store... not sure of their reputation.

Epr has been good to me, I have ordered Rom's, but you have to order a couple hundred dollars worth to get free shipping. But at least they worked. The power supply must have just sold out, within 2 weeks. Stuff that has been out of stock, has been out for quite a while.
Good Luck

I'd be careful not to get my hopes up.

I imagine that things out of stock being out for a long while is because stock is NOS ... and when it's gone ...
