Creative Lab's Nail in the Coffin

Creative Lab's Nail in the Coffin

2011-08-23 by steve_the_composer

I just tried to go to www.emu.com and was redirected to a creative site. I looked around for links to the legacy hardware and it was nowhere to be found.

I am hoping that maybe something is wrong with my browser. If not, it means we will never again be able to get any manuals, drivers, etc. from e-mu.

And if that is the case, perhaps we should organize a massive recreation of what used to be available.

Please check out www.emu.com and post your results.

As of this week, I am getting redirected to: http://www.creative.com/emu/

Thanks for the reply. It prompted me to do some further checking. Maybe its my browser. I can get to www.emu.com on IE, but no matter what I do, I get redirected to the creative site on FF. When I try the EMU link under Creative's Microsites tab, I stay within the Creative system which has no links to legacy gear.

Interesting, in FF I can use my history to go to things like: http://www.emu.com/support/files/download2.asp?Centric=565&Legacy=0&Platform=1

However, www.emu.com goes to the creative website. I guess I will have to make sure never to delete my browsing history!

Again, thanks for the reply which prompted me to do some more exploring.

Steve

> It sounds like it is time to so some archiving of manuals, os, etc. on our group site or somewhere else we can get to.....anyone up for it?

Maybe we can first ask Creative - they should still have all those
resources. I cannot reach old pages, even thru the old links (from
NL).

Thanaks for getting in touch with creativelabs. Perhaps this weekend I will take some screen shots to show the problem.

Someone mentioned it might be a DNS issue. As I understand it, that might mean that servers around the world have somehow been instructed to change www.emu.com to http://www.creative.com/emu/. As more servers start doing this, I assume eventually no one will be able to get to www.emu.com.

Hmmmm. I just tried pinging www.emu.com. That works, but I cannot use the result to access the site. Pinging www.creative.com produces the exact same address!!!! [124.246.74.235] I am not sure if that is really their address or someone is intercepting the request.

In any case, one fix would be for creativelabs to add the www.emu.com pages to their site and pit it in the support > products navigation system.

Again, thanks for contacting them.

Steve
