Changing the Splash Screen

Changing the Splash Screen

2011-07-02 by Ricard

Does anyone know how to change the 'Splash Screen', i.e. the XL-7 logo that comes up when the machine powers on? I've had to replace the main board in my machine with one from a PX-7, so it works fine, but comes up saying it's a PX-7. Not a major issue of course, just wondering if someone knows how to change the startup text.

This reminds me about a short story--something like "Clothes Make the Man." You essentially have a PX-7 in an XL-7 shell and its still behaving like a PX-7. I am not sure you can make it think its an XL-7. Is there an eprom or rom you can pull from the xl-7 board? NOTE: I am not recommending doing this; I am just wondering out loud, as long as you asked the question.

Isn't the PX-7 a more up to date version. I thought the PX-7 was version 2.0 and the XL-7 is version 1.3. or ????..... I personally would keep the PX-7 flash screen just incase you ever wanted to sell the unit you could advertise that fact. Just a thought.
Good Luck in your music making.

Re: Changing the Splash Screen

2011-07-03 by Ricard

The latest firmware (2.0) can be downloaded to all the Command Stations, and my XL-7 was running it before I switched the boards.

It clearly announces it during startup so there's no need to retain the PX-7 logo just to indicate it's a more up to date machine.

I agree, there are several features in 2.0 which really make it a dream machine, in particular make sequencing easier. In fact it was the sequencer which drew me to the XL-7 in the first place. I initially tried an Akai MPC1000 but the sequencer there has several limitations which I don't like - there are several operations which require the sequencer to be stopped, like editing, or even erasing a track. There's one thing though: I do believe it's possible to quantize a track on the MPC while the sequencer is running; the XL-7 stops if you do that, but that's more a question of setting up the right quantization in real time record to start with, so you don't have to do it afterwards.
