Can you save via sysex?

Can you save via sysex?

2011-05-12 by S. Lepore

I'm rifling the sysex manual but don't see any way to save via sysex. I'd prefer not to go full on remote mode. Any suggestions?

Hello

As far as I know the command station sequencer cannot record System Exclusive data on the sequencer.
But you can save the command station´s data on another MIDI device.

I think it is possible to embed sysex in patterns but only via Eloader.
This data then can be senton playback to other devices.

I haven't used them, but did you check out the copy utilities (pp. 33-35)? I am wondering if the edit buffer can be your source. It is only mentioned for Copy Master Setup, so I am nor sure.

If the edit buffer cannot be the source, perhaps you could use specific user memory slots for editing and then copy.

If necessary, perhaps you could have a remote save preset routine--open session, simulate button presses, close session. (That should probably a last resort, though.)

If the copy utilities cannot use the edit buffer as the source (best opyion if it works),I am wondering if there is an undocumented command that will do this.

I forget whether or not E-Mus can record sysex on the fly.

I know you cannot edit sysex in the E-Mu, but you can indeed upload a pattern with embedded sysex. The embedded sysex can be routed to the internal synth engine or to external gear.

When I was playing around with E-Mu's remote control sysex, I had Open RC and Close RC patterns as well as some demos that simulated all kind of buttons presses. I know I pulled down my original write-ups intending to organize the, but never followed through. I seem to recall re-uploading a couple of the RC sysex midi files. Lemme look.

Yup--its under Files > SYSEX > Remote Control.

As for the RC table, I never made a version that incorporated later info posted here. So, consider it a preliminary source, but please search the archives for newer info.

If you dabble with E-Mu RC, I highly recommend making sure to close the sessions when you are done.

Scott,
For your osc program, you might want to consider RC macros. The big issue when simulating button presses and knob turns is figuring out methods for setting up starting points (getting the cursor in the right position, starting knobs at 0 or 127, etc. For example, to initialize a simulated knob, I would send -128. That way, whatever the knob had been on, I was sure it was on 0 for my routine.
