Jan e-mailed me a couple of weeks ago to say a bug I had complained about a few years ago* was now fixed, but I haven't had a chance to test it. (*the one where it erases the settings you last had at power down) I think he also fixed whatever was causing the software to crash at times when switching channels. I will have to make some time over the next few months to give the new version a try (assuming the Win7 stuff doesn't cause problems for XP). Prodatum is a preset editor developed by Jan Eidtmann. e-loader is an e-mu utility that (among other things) lets you transfer songs and patterns to your PC. If you are looking for a preset editor, also consider Proteum. E-loader is for loading and saving patterns. Steve: - Jan released version 1 soon after. It solves a lot of my earlier problems - definitely more stable, though there was some trial-and-error in getting it to work. Strangely, some of my MIDI interfaces wouldn't agree with prodatum. One big issue remaining for me: I still can't get the transpose function to work - maybe you could test it? Press K to view the keyboard and Middle-click on the new root key. It worked fine in previous versions here, but not now for some reason. With the latest 1.0 released a few days ago I'm having trouble getting it to work It sees my midi keyboard playing and the MP-7, it shows keys played on the screen but cannot get it to see the devices or import a sound. Probably something I'm doing wrong but cant figure it out yet. Any advice? ________________________________ From: stimresp <stimresp@...> To: xl7@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sat, 23 April, 2011 5:42:50 AM Subject: [xl7] Re: Prodatum Patch editor updated to V 0.99 - Win7 > What is prodatum vs eloader Prodatum is a preset patch editor - it allows you to edit your own sounds from the raw samples, or just tweak existing presets. Others have mention that it took them some time and tried a few different midi interfaces for it to work, so wrong again! Try refreshing the auto detect a few times. Find and delete the config file in prodatum folder (/users/../Appdata/Roaming) and be sure to use the ROM data that are available as a separate download. It did take me several attempts, deleting the config file each time. I've tested with several interfaces and it only works every time through a Novation x-station. With other devices prodatum is quite picky. I can't figure out why. The developer said it could be a sysex issue related to old usb midi drivers, but... --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Greg W <greg4ww@...> wrote: > > Others have mention that it took them some time > and tried a few different midi interfaces > for it to work, so wrong again! > > Its the first time i've bothered > to use that editor as i dont have much problem > programming it from its interface. > > why have you waiting for one of my few posts just to be a dullard? > ohh yeah chip and shoulder. lol > > > > > > From: James Ulibarri <jamesulibarri@...>To: "xl7@yahoogroups.com" > <xl7@yahoogroups.com>Sent: Sat, 23 April, 2011 7:27:49 PM > > Subject: Re: [xl7] Prodatum Patch editor updated to V 0.99 - Now 1.0 up > > > Shocking. (2)James, Why do you persist? I accept people at their word. If some people experience problems, this is the perfect place to ask about others' experience. You are arrogant and insulting. Greg does have a place here. I have had many problems too, over 30 years, not just with Protadum, but Proteum, and Proteus X, Cubase, Sound Forge, Wavelab, Motu and everything else including Multiple Protools systems, on windows (all versions) macs (all from 9), I just choose not to use most of all of them anymore. I have 2 Akai Mpc's 2500's and 5000's running multiple studios and they work very well with all my Emu, Ensoniq, Roland, Yamaha, Access, and Korg peices. I found something that works for me and my studio family, and I choose to stick with it. Just because someone has a question doesn't make them a rookie or not accepted in this group. The only dumb question is the one not asked. I love to read the questions and answers, it helps people, not cut downs and stabs, it just hurts people...... Thanks to all the good hearts and dedicated people out there who help people in need. God bless you all, and remember Jesus still loves you. Happy Easter. If we're talking 20+ years you would have brought up real Emu units like Emulators, Drumulators, SP's, Sequential, Voyetra, PPG, etc. I don't know about your stories.... I'm just playing with you, Doggtel. :) Steve, I apologize to the group on that one. Sometimes people need to be roundhoused though at times, and I admit I did a 360 degree roundhouse in slow-motion on the guy. But he's emailing me offline and constantly talking smack in my posts when no one else is throwing me any negative mojo. It's annoying. More like a baby shaking the bars on his crib kinda annoying. But, Steve, a little less parenting on the board would be nice. Not everyone is gonna get a long 100% of the time. On a utopian forum where everything is perfect all the time than it may exist but I am not holding my breath on that one. A collection of people with different experiences, gear setups, learning curves, personalities, and every other variances in people possible is a recipe for arguments. But before you say it... I know that you're just seeking a sense of common courtesy and respect for each member. And on that one I drop the ball completely. There are just some people I do not respect. They bring little to the table and take up space. So on and off the board I do what I gotta do. But I'll work on it... I have waaay bigger fish to fry than burn up any more time on this thread. Like everyone else there is only such monetary resources and time. And time being everyone's most precious asset... I just wasted it. Balls. Balls. I downloaded the new version of Prodatum a couple of days ago. Clearly Jan has done a lot more to it over the past couple of years. The only test I did so far was changing channels as fast as I could to try to trigger an executable lock-up/crash--one of the problems I had several times over the years. Although I only tested it once for about 20-30 seconds, it didn't crash. It loads much much quicker than previous versions, and the customizable color sliders and options produce an almost infinite variety of color variations. (Most of them are too wild for me, though. Personally, I like shades of off white rather than sizzling hot magenta.) For users of earier versions, the user interface should be very familiar. As time permits I will try to do some more testing. My interface is an old motu parallel port interface, though I have a couple of other small usb boxes (e-mu 2x2 and emagic mt4) and a sound card (midi/joystick port) I might be able to test. I have had problems with thoughput and drivers with the mt4, so that might be a good test to see if Prodatum can handle that. Keep in mind, Jan has maintained some speed options. If you are having problems with your midi interface, try adjusting those setting. I did not yet try the thing that caused Prodatum to erase the last settings in effect at power down. Jan told me it no longer does that and based on the new, quicker startup, I'd say it looks like that problem should indeed be gone. I seem to recall the last time I replicated the problem (a few months ago), I had to erase the configuation files to force Prodatum to start as if it were the first time. However, with the new start up procedures, I am doubtful I can replicate the problem. (But I will give it a try when I can.) E-mu users are very fortunate to have the creative programming talents and the dedication of the developers of both Proteum and Prodatum for our "legacy gear." Both preset/patch editors have brought new life to the P2K family of hardware. It is great that the developers are around and keep improving on the software. Steve
