Buttons

They suck. They get stuck down and they r horrible feeling. Anyone got this dealt with yet?

Because I have a second hand machine I thought I was the only one having similar problem. Tried cleaning them inside out but it didn't help.

EPR has the pad sets for like $125, but and takes about 10 minutes to
install. But unless you have a really worn pad or one ripped, I would
skip it. They do look better new, but no increase in performance.
It's the same thing. First it's the placebo effect, and then you
realize that they suck too.

Maybe midi up a Korg PadKontrol. Those feel good.

Richard said replace the pcb and buttons both.
It's the only thing you can do or swap them from another CS.

Are we talking about buttons or pads here?
Surely PadKontrol's pads are hard to beat. But if it comes to buttons they feel like nipples during summer evenings at your girlfriend's house when she's sleepy.

If I would have said that I would be kicked off.
The rules only apply to some people in life... that's been my
experience. Funny tho!

Sorry, buttons than. Epr said replace the pcb and actual button.
Maybe they just want the sale?

>>Epr said replace the pcb and actual button.<<

I bought a load of bits from him recently- couple of encoders, some light-pipes (you can lose them really easily if you take out the pcb with the CS the wrong way up. it needs to be face down on a soft tablecloth or similar...) & some of the pcb tact switches. my XL7 was leaping around like a crazy thing between tracks/channels & that + the busted encoder made it a pain to drive. now it's a joy again.

but these tact switches are a real ball-ache to get off the board. you (or your tech) will have to reflow the existing solder by (counterintuitive, this bit) *adding* more solder before sucking it all out using a desoldering pump. even then, the board is at least double sided (maybe multi-layer) & puts up quite a fight.

but it can be done, & it's worth it.

this weekend, I have to replace an encoder in the planet earth module in my live rig. not looking forward to that.... :-/

duncan.

I really want to replace my buttons as well, but with something other than what's in there now. I want button covers that are not hard plastic. Maybe a stiff rubber. I was looking around hard a couple months ago but lost steam.

I know just what you mean. I have a sticky # 2, it can really kill your mix if you do a lot punch in/out. At least I only have one thats sticky. I have a similar issue from time to time with the pads sticking and holding a note till you hit it again.Really frustrating if you've just recorded one of those one of kind sequences and you have to redo it because you have a note that's wrong or rings out too long....

Re: Buttons

my xl7 had the #2 button indented from overuse when i bought it too(lol). it was def used for live shows i can tell, also by the funky custom paint job and power supply. will hopefully get to replacing the buttons soon though with the ones i got from mouser which i added to the database.
