TSCY - is it worth it?

TSCY - is it worth it?

2011-02-26 by Bruno

Hi guys,

just because something is available, it doesn't mean one have to get
it. Right now I can get an MP7 with the option of having Techno ROM
included. I don't do typical dance music, nor any kind of
electro-dub-house-trance-whatever. I'm mostly interested in having the
sequencing engine of Command Station, so even MP7 ROM will be OK for
me, and even if not, I still have Protozoa ROM in my P2K I can quickly
put in my CS.

In electronic music I'm mostly interested in Berlin stuff (by "Berlin"
I mean Tangerine Dream, for instance) and ambient. I enjoy stuff like
early Jarre and Vangelis, some Schulze works (when he's not deadly
boring); Steve Roach, Tor Lundvall, Carbon Based Lifeforms. While
enjoying the analog-like sound, I'm not a purist in this matter - as
long as I can control the sound, and I like the sound, it is OK.

So, my question is: is TSCY worth it in my case? I know it's difficult
for others to tell if I would like it or not. But I would rather get
X-Lead ROM or Vintage Keys (if possible) - the only advantage of TSCY
is that I can get it now with the said MP7.

All answers will be helpful for me and I will appreciate them,

Bruno

I would buy it. Then I would see if I liked tscy and if I didn't I would sell it. And I would let my lady rock the mp7 cuz its purple. She always tryin to kick me off mine to get some jam time. But james thinks I'm gassy with gear ;)

The thing is, that this guy would rather keep his TSCY... So the thing
was, should I really try hard to convince him :-) Convincing would
probably mean making an irresistible offer - higher than the XLead ROM
price...

I think I'm going to ask him to store TSCY presets in User banks, and
then try to recreate them using raw instruments from MP7 or P2K with
Protozoa. From what I've read, TSCY power comes rather from patches,
than from samples.

(1) Don't forget to get the arps.
(2) If you do try re-creating the presets using ROM instruments from ROMS you have, can you make a suitable substitution table? It has been my dream to have members of the P2K-based gear community help generate a massive substitution table that I could encode into a ROM ID conversion program I did.

Yeah, thanks, thought about this as well. It's something that can be
done inside MP7 itself, or is E-Loader required for this?

I'm not sure I'm the right person to do this - remember, I will not
hear the original sounds, so it will be mostly applying "rocks/sucks"
test to the sound. It can be achieved if you have both ROMs.
