Hi all, I've just created a Soundcloud group to post tracks made primarily on Command stations. Not sure if there already is one? Feel free to post new tracks, works in progress or old releases.

Interesting idea. I have some questions: (1) What do you mean by "primarily" CS[P2500] (2) Are tunes that also contain other E-Mu's OK (P2K-base, original Proteus line, E-Mu Sampler, etc.) as long as the tunes make major use of CS/P2500? (3) Are tunes that also contain other non-E-Mu gear OK as long as the tunes make major use of CS/P2500? (4) What is the maximum upload time for a tune? (5) Is Soundcloud still free, or is it only by susbcription/fee now? (6) Other than comments on the tracks, is it possible to have a description of each piece in Soundcloud? I ask because I might be able to share some of my music from the past year depending on the answers. I suppose if you want to have it 85%/90% or more CS/P2500 (and possibly other E-Mu's), I could do some music just using the P2500 (and XL-1, if that's OK). Thanks for sharing this. nice group.
it will be good to hear variety of this strong sequencer.
xl7 is core of midi set-up with many external synths/drum machines-
but sometimes do not even bother with ext. units for some songs.
track contributed to group has all drums/synth from xl7 w/stock rom/TSCY/Protozoa/Halo
turns out i was following a just john, nenad on soundcloud already!

Hi Steve, I've put some answers below. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "steve_the_composer" <smw-mail@...> wrote: > > > > > Interesting idea. I have some questions: > > (1) What do you mean by "primarily" CS[P2500] As the main beat/sound source. As above, the bulk of the sounds should come from the Command Station or P2500, with any roms that are available > (3) Are tunes that also contain other non-E-Mu gear OK as long as the tunes make major use of CS/P2500? Yes. If there is that much sound comming from other sources that the Command station sound is coloured or not recognized then it's probably not much good to other users. I started the group mainly so users could share their creations, get feedback, and see the possibilities of their units waiting to be discovered in their CS's. I included the P2500 as it's essentially the same minus the pads and ribbon controller. > (4) What is the maximum upload time for a tune? This is linked to your soundcloud account, as you are only sharing to the group. There is no limit as far as I know for group submissions. > (5) Is Soundcloud still free, or is it only by susbcription/fee now?Yes still free, but getting a lite account gives you much more benefits. > (6) Other than comments on the tracks, is it possible to have a description of each piece in Soundcloud? Yes, when uploading tracks you can add a description, which people can read if you click on the track title. > > I ask because I might be able to share some of my music from the past year depending on the answers. I suppose if you want to have it 85%/90% or more CS/P2500 (and possibly other E-Mu's), I could do some music just using the P2500 (and XL-1, if that's OK). If you've used non-emu gear or older emu stuff for certain sounds, just explain it in the track description. > > Thanks for sharing this. > > Steve > > --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "nenad.lonic" <nenad.lonic@> wrote: > > > > > > Hi all, I've just created a Soundcloud group to post tracks made > > primarily on Command stations. Thanks for the replies. I have redesigned my setup so I will be able to do things with just the E-Mu gear. SteveRe: Command Station group on Soundcloud

Well, I haven't set up a Soundcloud account yet, but here's a link to a set that is probably around 87-92% E-Mu gear (P/1+Orchestral, E5000, P2500, XL-1, plus some layered sound from a Roland M-GS64). I'd estimate that 78-82% is P2K synth engine based. It is a live performance from a New Year's Eve streaming concert. (Other than arps, there are no prerecorded sequences.) http://www.electro-music.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=318026#318026 If you give a listen, I hope you enjoy it. Steve, I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to pull on the rest of us here, but that set can clearly be no more than 73% P2K-engine-based... -- NUNQUAM NON PARATUS V: 408.718.6290 On Dec 31, 2010, at 8:50 AM, steve_the_composer wrote: > Well, I haven't set up a Soundcloud account yet, but here's a link to a set that is probably around 87-92% E-Mu gear (P/1+Orchestral, E5000, P2500, XL-1, plus some layered sound from a Roland M-GS64). Hmmmm. Now that you mention it, when I did the rough estimate, I thought of the E5000 as non-p2k based. However, (since you raised the matter), I realized that all the E5000's sounds came from a resident P2500 ROM that I accidently trashed the baby ROM. So, it seems, my original estimate was rather conservative. 8-D Steve --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Scott Solmonson <scosol@...> wrote: > > Steve, I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to pull on the rest of us here, but that set can clearly be no more than 73% P2K-engine-based... >Re: [xl7] Re: Command Station group on Soundcloud

OK what does that convert to percentage wise?

LOL. There is no way I will attempt an exact calculation or even a more accurate guess. I'd have to try to reconstruct way too much. For example, the M-GS64 was either off or potted all the way down approximately 2/3 the time (give or take a fraction) and on the P/1 one patch was used at approximately 10% of the mean volume of the entire set on roughly 5 of the estimated 19-20 midi channels used. Happy New Year.
