Which has the most stable and error free OS: RS7000 or XL/MP-7?

Which has the most stable and error free OS: RS7000 or XL/MP-7?

I have an rm1x+mc505+an200+dx200 setup now, but the sounds on the new
boxes are much better (at least than the rm1x and mc505). However,
from what I've experienced and read, the command stations have lots
of glitches. It seems that these are due to OS problems. So, which
box has the more stable (and error free) OS at this point? The
command stations or the rs7k?

Hi, zensufi,

At this point definitely the RS7000! (I demoed it extensively against
the mp-7, had the rm1x and the mc-307 before).

We are all waiting for the new OS to be released. It was announced
for the beginning/middle of march by a well informed member in this
newsgroup. Mind you, some of the reported "glitches" are not
glitches, but user errors. This is because the XX-7 has quite a few
features that are not at all laid out in a user friendly way. We are
waiting to see quite a few of them improved in the next OS. Check
back here in a few days time. As there is room for improvements I
believe you have to live with some limitations because of the poor
display design (two lines and a minor extra display), but EMU tried
to make up for this with lots of buttons and realtime control. Its a
different approach, quite good for live use - but for composing its
definitely worse, because you have to step through menus - I advise
you to use a software sequencer with it, which I actually wanted to
go away from.

I sticked with Emu because I like the sounds more (even if the efx
section routing is a good laugh) and the "build like a tank"-feel of
the box. I guess, you know that the XX-7 lacks a sampling option, so
it is not the all-in-one-box in case you rely on sampling (you can
use your own samples but you have to burn your own Card and use up
one of the three slots - this is way to expensive!!!).

If my memory serves me right there is a major disadvantage with the
RS: No realtime xox-recording (grid recording?) while listening to
other tracks! If thats important to you, stay away from the RS. I
don´t know if they added this with the new RS-OS, but I remember
people saying, this would not be possible with the yammie.

Best regards and good luck

HEinrich

Thanks for the quick reply. Hmmm...maybe I'll wait to see how the
OSs on these boxes shake out since they all leave something to desire.
