Rom samples

2010-04-29 by gonzinigonz

Hi all
Dusted the XL-7 off as im on a sampling mission.
I forgot how much fun the arp is to play about with!
So can anyone tell me if a majority of the roms use just one sample at A3 or A4 root note key mapped across the whole range?
I realise most of the drum kits are key mapped over a few octaves then maybe repeat but are there any other multi-sample's that are key mapped?
Im mostly sampling the synth waveforms at the moment which don't sound as if they have be multi-sampled so far..
Doesn't seem to be much point multi-sampling if the originals aren't.
Also is the SPDIF output at 48Khz or 44.1Khz like the main outputs?
My Roland UA5 seems to be fixed at 48Khz when the XL-7 is connected, which isn't a problem...
Cheers guys

Good question. I don't know the answer, but I have put a couple of my ROMS in an EOS Sampler where you can see how the individual samples are mapped across the keyboard. Of course, I don't know if the P2K presets retain the original mapping. My gut says, since the samples are there already, so why would E-Mu remap them? Not sure if this helps; maybe someone else here has more knowledge of these things. Welcome back.

if the basic prssamplesSince the ROMSA related question is,

Hi
Most of the synth like samples sound like the root is at A3 and some at A4.
They don't sound like their multisamples for the most part.
Maybe some sounds are, bit hard say i guess.
Yes its been a while, i brought a Spectralis some months back and wanted to get some samples of the XL7 in there.
I wish it had as much of the functionality of the EMU.
There's some stuff that is blatantly missing that should be there, maybe a future firmware update might deal with a few issues...
It does sound amazing though and has a few tricks. I will be keeping the EMU though!

The presence (or lack of) multisamples depends on the ROM in question
and how "new" the material was at the time.

For example, the Audity2K samples, 16MB worth, have multisamples for
some of the basic synth waves, whereas the older Orbit set, 8MB worth,
tends not to.

Some of the single-sample waves suffer when transposed a great amount,
even with E-mu's good algorithm.

cheers,
Ian

Hi Ian
Well there's the XL-7 standard rom in there. Are there 2 versions of that, V1 & V2?
Also has the Protean drums (£70!! Thomann Germany), beat garden and TSCY roms that came with it :o)
Ive heard some of the artefacts when pitch is at extremes.
Cheers
