dynamics with XL7

dynamics with XL7

2010-02-01 by Zsolt Szabó

As much ai I love my XL7 I still miss proper dynamics section from the FX.
Compressor/limiter, gate, expander?
Is there a flexible and more or less comprehensive solution?
Only the 2 sub-outs? That's way less... :(

Thanks,

The XL7 is a synthesizer, an instrument, so it's effects complement the synthesis of the sound. The effects you speak of are recording effects. Check your audio recording setup for these......if you have a software based DAW, they are in the VST/Dxi effects......if you have a digital hardware recorder, they are part of the recording effects section of the recorder.....if you have something else or are not recording, use the inserts of your mixing board. Lastly, the inserts of the XL-7 are helpful if you have no other way to send the audio to effects, but in most situations, if the XL-7 is your only synth, you can put an outboard effects processor in-line with the XL-7 outputs to get dynamics processing. There are many digital solutions, make sure they do have dynamics processing because only about a quarter do. I have an analog solution, a quad compressor limiter and a quad noise gate that are outboard that I can patch in when I need it.....

Yes, I all know this.
But would be so good to use the XL7 standalone.
With all the drum sounds, it screams for those effects.

And there are only 2 sub outs. Not speaking about the
convenience of having a comp on the bus, and being able
to send to it = insert or parallel compression.
Would be just so much verstile.

You have two stereo outs. If you a looking to use effects on drums, it is easy to set them up as 4 mono outs.
