To harvest ROMs or to not harvest ROMs

To harvest ROMs or to not harvest ROMs

2009-12-18 by bobsvitilla

I was planning on waiting quite a while before expanding my XL-7, but I caught a good deal on an Orbit 3 and a Planet Earth module. What are the advantages and disadvantages of harvesting the Roms? The ones obvious to me are save space, more gear to lug, more outs, double the polyphony, seperate processor, midi lag(is there any?).

If all the ROMs are installed in the command station can a user preset include instrument layers from different ROMs?

Thanks

yes! orgasmic isn't it.
i would put them all into one module and play with the sounds utilizing prodatum. i would not need the extra polyphony or extra outputs.

Nice!!!! That's what I was hoping.

I was glad to see the large encoder and the pots were the same in case I need parts for my XL-7. Also, if I run into issues and need the extra poly or outs the module can be put into action.

Is there anything special the Orbit3 module can do, sequencer or arp-wise the the XL-7 can not? Is it possible to import patterns from the Orbit3 into the XL-7?

I know some of this probably can be solved through manual diving. Sorry.

Arps are stored on the sound ROM, so they'll transfer over just by adding the ROM (IIRC, but maybe there's some memory issue? it's been a long time).

And nope, the XL-7 is a pure superset of all the modules.
