Can I edit song files outside?

Is there a software which can see the xl7 song files with all the data inside, well the pattern order.. and other events??? Thanks

Just for the fun of it, I took a look at a *.mid file of a song with nothing more than a couple of patterns strung together. Other than the headers/timing/sysex/etc. stuff, it looks like the patterns and mutes are text characters. (I downloaded a song using e-loader and looked at it with Microsoft's built-in debug program.) I didn't go further with dissecting the song file, but I suppose if someone wanted to write a utility to chain patterns and set mutes they could do it and then add additional functionality to it. (It sur would be nice to be able to do this via usb.)
