Which ROM's best for Real Guitar and Bass sounds?

Which ROM's best for Real Guitar and Bass sounds?

2008-09-08 by Gabriel

Does anyone have any suggestions about which ROM I might pick up to get more realistic/
organic bass and guitar sounds? Right now I have an XL7 with only the stock sounds. I play
a more rock/industrial type music and have been really wanting more than just the electro
sounds lately. In my recordings I play several guitar parts and Live bass and now find that
I'm needing to be able to do some duplication of those parts in the programming so that
in the live setting the music sounds more like the recording.
I'm especially interested in the guitar and more specifically Heavy Guitar sounds. Are there
any ROM's for the command stations that focus on these (and possibly even other more
natural sounds)?
And does any have any for sale or know where I may pick one up at a reasonable price?
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

The best sounds for this use likely to be available are in the
proteus 2000 set or versions thereof. This is heavily biased towards
bass a lot of which is dance music bass. It does have a fair
sprinkling of acoustic guitar, electric bass and lead guitar.
You can even try it out free if you are willing to do it in software
as emu website now provides a totally unhindered freebie of the
software Proteus (its called VX) which comes with a complete and
updated bank of the P2K rom set in software.
I am mainly a software user and the most realistic acoustic guitars
I have are from Emulator X banks I made myself from free magazine
samples and such like

Er, um ... you ask for "organic" and "Heavy Guitar" in the same breath?

Electric guitars don't grow on trees .... YET.

For what I would call "organic" sounds, there's Ed Mann's World
Expedition ROM. For plucked instruments, he even tried to make
simulating the pick's up strokes and down strokes easier. (So he
mentioned once in an email to me. I was basically writing to ask if
he was THE Ed Mann who played with Zappa. He was.)

Hi,
All things being un equal I agree with the above.
That being the closest to a realistic guitar tone is on the Proteus 2000
Of the emu collection.

Realistic is a slippery slope. The character of the instrument is
defined to a certain degree by the performance techinque or
multiplicity of the techniques in concert. This is also coupled by
brand and type. EG: I've had several strats and tele's as well as an
assortment of single coil guitars. The single coil sound on the proteus
2000 is the closest you will get however it is a far cry from any
single coil in my current or previous collections of guitars with
single coils.

Your coment is pretty funny! Guitars don't grow on trees but they are made of trees! hahah
I guess I just mean something that sounds like a real guitar with clean or distortion. That I
can program the second guitr player parts with, and several more live bass versus synth
type basses.

for those kinds of sounds the kurzweil k2000 was the choice for me.

Beat Garden.

Have a lot of riff guitars. Several arppegios on variated scales. These are not distorted guitars, but RIFF guitars, chords. Not nylon.

If you haven't experimented yet with the Sub outputs, do so now!
How many real guitar players play without and FX pedal or 2 or 3...
ok a few...
Get a send/return cable and any old distortion or delay pedal (wahwha
anyone?)and plug it in. There's actually 4 mono outputs (or 2 stereo)
You'll want to tweak the output settings (Global menu maybe?) but,
This can make a world of difference in trying to simulate guitar
sounds.
Or for just whacking your snares out with that old BigMuff for
fun!
