I am currently using battery with my mp-7 but would like to switch back to a hardware sampler and was wondering what all of you are using. I really love the yamaha su700 and the akai mpc2000xl but any opinions are welcome. I am trying to stay away from the rack samplers and was thinking something with keys would probally be best as I could use the keys for midi with the mp-7 as well as playing samples so a ASR or Alesis fusion came to mind. Curious to hear your setups. -Ty

My first gear purchase since using only an Ensoniq Mirage since 1990 for Hip-Hop was an XL-7(Custom painted black). So even though I'm not new to sampling I'm new to anything other than a Mirage and WOW!!!!! This is a match made in heaven(Premo watch out). I also have a Roland S-750 sitting under the XL-7 but am still waiting for the wires and zip drive from the seller. A beautiful thing about using a Mirage or any other sequencer-equipped sampler with the XL-7 is that I was worried that I would have to redo my original Mirage sequences but not so. I just armed the XL-7 sequencer in 'first note record' mode and hit play on the Mirage sequencer and voila, all notes were recorded into the XL-7! And the synth in it kicks some booty also. This thing is totally rad! --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "solacerodgers" <solacerodgers@...> wrote:

Try an Ensoniq ASR-X pro. I have been using this with my PX-7 for many years now and could not be happier. Great effects and amazing sampler (sequencer kinda sucks but who cares.) you can resample with effects and even use it as an effects insert thru your mp-7 inserts. only down side is the scsi hard drives can be hard to find. you can use zips but that gets annoying after a while. max hard drive on this machine is 2.2 gigs. I just have a link to the eBay auction <http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150247840993> . It's dark metallic green but that's only noticeable in bright light. Also the letters were simply drawn back on by hand with a silver permanent marker but overall it's neat(ish) and legible. I'm glad my introduction to this machine was in a generic paint job like this because I think my whole creativity would have been thrown off with the bright splash paint job. It was pure chance I ended up with this as I was bidding on an ASR-X. I got the Roland S-750 to make up for that(still haven't tried it out yet until the wires get here but have heard it's on par with the ASR's sound). I still want to try an X though. I'd love to see some other custom XX-7's also. I'm still getting used to it and it's baddass! --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, jason rodgers <fsmastering@...> wrote: > > Do you have pics of your xx7 custom paint job? I actually had a asr-x for about 3 years and traded it for the mp-7 as I was not using it for much sampling anymore due to the sequencer being crap and the mouse encoder knobs being shot. I had my neighboor who builds custom cabinets for boats carve sidepanels for my mp-7 and stained them, they look just like the black plastic ones only there wood grain and look great plus add some weight to the machine. If i cold find the right person i would like to do a nice paint job with graf text in place of the original but forat.com isnt doing any art for the xx-7 series as they do not have the letter templates. There is a company that is releasing inverted blue screens and color leds for samplers ( right now just the mpc ) but i would also like to chance this from the dull green to blue. http://needlewerk.com/ --- On Sun, 7/13/08, dutchbeats <dutchbeats@...> wrote:

I have the MPC 4000. It's a beast, way more versatile than the 2000XL. They are kinda expensive, I don't know what your price range is, ,but it works well with my MP-7 and Pro Tools. J --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "solacerodgers" <solacerodgers@...> wrote:

Kinda OT, but also not, i have the XL7, and i love its sequencing and immediacy of the sounds, but i'm now wanting to use a sampler.. i've been looking at the aftermarket JJOS 2.0 for the mpc1000 and it seems to have added a bunch of nice synth and sequencing features like the step sequencing screen etc. (http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/ JJOS website) Is anyone here able to comment on the similarities and differences between the two devices? Hi there, I have recently started using an MPC1000 (with JJ/OS 2.0) along side my trusty XL7 and it seems to be a nice compliment. I just added an MTP AV so everything down the chain (Nord Rack, Oberheim Echoplex)gets it's clock from the Timepiece, and the MPC starts and stops the XL7, but the sequencers are remaining separate at this point. The XL7 still RULES in my book, as far as laying down tracks quickly and efficiently in a musical fashion. If you like the way you write on the XL7 - with just a little bit more sample management in advance, you can do pretty much the same style writing on the MPC. (Can't change tracks in record on MPC - but you can drop out of record/change track and back into record without stopping tho...) I think these two play well together. Hope this helps jt --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Alwyn <zardac@...> wrote: > > Kinda OT, but also not, > > i have the XL7, and i love its sequencing and immediacy of the sounds, > but i'm now wanting to use a sampler.. i've been looking at the > aftermarket JJOS 2.0 for the mpc1000 and it seems to have added a > bunch of nice synth and sequencing features like the step sequencing > screen etc. > (http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/ JJOS website) > > Is anyone here able to comment on the similarities and differences > between the two devices? > > Cheers, > [zar] > > > 2008/7/14 caldwell_jm <caldwell_jm@...>: > > I have the MPC 4000. Hello.. Although I have a very large home studio with a good amount of hardware gear, I often fly to play gigs and I don't like to carry too much gear with me. For live use, I use only an XL-7 and a Korg ESX-1. I find the Korg to be a fantastic complimentary sampler, as it is incredibly intuitive to play with live, the sequencer feels nice and I can route the headphones out from the Command Station into the audio ins on the ESX, for on-the-fly addition of Korg effects onto the XL-7. Just a thought.. Also, if you would like to hear some music or add me as a friend, my MySpace is http://myspace.com/nymphrecords . Thanks: Daniel [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Thanks for all the replies I grabbed 2 samplers the boss sp 303 and a roland mv-8000 since they are so cheap and i can use the 303 for live stuff and the mv when at the studio. --- On Thu, 7/24/08, Daniel Kerr <danieklerr@gmail.com> wrote:

hardware gear, I often fly to play gigs and I don't like to carry too much
gear with me. For live use, I use only an XL-7 and a Korg ESX-1. I find the
Korg to be a fantastic complimentary sampler, as it is incredibly intuitive
to play with live, the sequencer feels nice and I can route the headphones
out from the Command Station into the audio ins on the ESX, for on-the-fly
addition of Korg effects onto the XL-7. Just a thought..
Also, if you would like to hear some music or add me as a friend, my MySpace
is http://myspace. com/nymphrecords . Thanks:
Daniel

Ordered it off ebay should be here within the week hopefully. I had a 303 way way way back in the day but never used it to its full potential, mostly for fx with my turntables lol how foolish i was. Got them both for under a grand cant beat that. --- On Thu, 7/24/08, Shane <lvrshn@...> wrote:
