PK-6 Question

PK-6 Question

2008-06-02 by John Larkin

I recently purchased a PK-6 and added the Virtuoso ROMs. I was
disappointed that the keyboard does not feature a "transpose"
button, which I have always found so indispensible on other keyboards
when dealing with virtual instruments that go beyond the bounds of the
61 keys. Is there a way to program a trigger button
to "move"/transpose the keyboard up or down an octave, or some other
solution? Thanks.

Transpose would be in the global menu. Separate tuning of voices is in
the preset edit section. There is of course the transposition" buttons
above the touchstrip./
The manual is nice to peruse in digital form
and is in the files section to your left.

Re: [xl7] Re: PK-6 Question

Note to all: There is no transpose buttons or touchstrip on the keyboard version of this synth, the PK-6, XK-6, MK=6, VK-6......

Our new member, John, is asking if there is an easy way to access or create a transpose function on the keyboard version of the synth without stepping through menus? If not, what are other viable alternatives?

Thanks
Bob

Thanks Bob, you've reiterated my question well.

Yes, I can transpose and retune patches through the menu functions of course, but changing the octave placement on the keyboard also changes the placement in my sequencer. I'm looking for a way to access the upper and lower ranges of the keyboard without altering the note position in Cubase.

That sounds like a bug. You could always try to workaround it by using the keyboard in multi mode, having the sequencer echo the commands to a different channel. Alternatively, you could turn local off and route everything through Cubase...

Re: PK-6 Question

I had a brain freeze and saw PK-6 as PX-7 (which would belong on this
forum) How about using a patchcord from a controller (slammed left or
right) or footswitch to pitch?

Re: [xl7] Re: PK-6 Question

Actually, I did try retuning each patch to fit the keyboard. However, using "pitch" or "tuning" controls has the effect of distorting the natural timbres of the instruments.
I think the idea of using a footswitch to trigger a global transpose would be perfect. Is there a way to link a contoller to an item on the "Global" menu? In other words, I don't know how (if it's possible) to address the global menu via MIDI commands. Any thoughts?
