Can I use assign a midi foot controller...

Can I use assign a midi foot controller...

2008-04-28 by anthonyhoneyford

Can I assign a midi footcontroller to do more than the patchcords will
allow?.... I play guitar and want to trigger notes, start stop
patterns....Is that something I can do without paying to go on a 'lets
learn midi' course? I know this is a bit cheeky, but with so many
commitments (family/work/alcahol etc.) I'm wondering if any of you
rocket scientists can help me out with the programming?
I'm not a complete novice with my XL7....Heres a link to a song i
sequenced...all on the XL7....I also played the guitar...Heres a link
to the trak.....its no.11 morning calls....
http://www.valentinerecords.co.uk/download/index.html

I need to know which midi controller I should, given that i don't
really need to be switching presets.....or maybe a huge set of note
trigger pads on the floor.....has anyone ever invented such a
thing.....for guitarists to trigger long cascading notes on their stage
tempo'd XL7....?

You can have the local pedal do one of the things specified in the Controllers menu, which include start/stop, punch, or normal patchcord stuff. If you're talking about an external pedal (i.e. that has a MIDI jack, not a 1/4" jack), then you'd be at the whim of whatever pedal you have allows you to transmit.

Okay....lets say I get a standard foot controller that would normally
be used via midi to control rackmount guitar effects....
Like this cheap one (hate behringer, but if it does the job?):
http://www.inta-
audio.com/pp/Keyboards_and_Midi/Midi_Controllers/Behringer_Midi_Foot_C
ontroller_FCB1010.html
I'm not bothered about bank switching etc....as I'd only use one
pattern/preset per song....
Could I use this to trigger preset notes....and maybe programme the 2
footpedals to alter other perameters (volume/pot controls) in a live
situation....

The reason for wanting to do this as opposed to sequencing a song is
that I can stay in time with a live drummer and the whole thing
becomes more dynamic sounding set-up....

Does this make sense?

====================

for MIDI, the FCB1010 is *the* pedal controller to have. i don't really
need one (a PC-1600x does what i need), but i've had my eye on it since it
was new. there's an active mailing list for it, and a 3rd party software
upgrade <http://www.ossandust.be/>.

i haven't played with one of those, but hop on the mailing list and find
out if it can do what you need (and if you'll need the UnO firmware to do
it). you'll probably have to "roll up your sleeves" and think like a
programmer to figure out the "MIDI stuff", but once you figure it out and
make notes for yourself, you can focus on music in new ways.

based on my limited knowledge of the 1010; you can use the pedals to send
CC messages, which the XL7 can interpret like turning a knob for any
modulation destination. i'm not sure about sending note on/off messages...
