I bought a mp-7 about 2 weeks ago from ebay and have been using it just fine i also ordered the extreme lead version 2 rom that just came in today. I followed the instructions exactly being careful not to touch or do anything when i installed the new rom but when i turned the mp-7 back on boom no sound roms found. I took out the new rom hoping it was just that well no sound on my mp-7 original rom either. I just spent about 450.00 for all this am i stuck with a huge paper weight now? I really cant believe this is happening and hope someone has a quick fix. Thanks.

What version OS on the MP-7....an old OS may now recognize a newer rom...just a thought. Also, did you install it in the lowest numbered slot of the 4 open adjacent slots? Did it seat like a SIMM properly? Bob El Segundo, CA

Wrong is it possible for the simm rom board to be bad? I moved the mp7 rom to all the rom slots starting in diag. mode and checking the rom slots and nothing. I dont think i will be able to sleep till i get this fixed.

Of course it is possible for a rom board to be bad (but let's not yet assume this) but did you say you tried both an MP7 rom and an XL7 rom and neither were recognised by the MP7 control station? Bob -----Original Message-----

My mp-7 rom which i have had in the machine and working perfectly would now will not show since i tried to install the xlead. Its not even in there anymore and the mp-7 rom still will not show up. It has to be the board everything else works it triggers midi , the lights all work , the ram test was fine , the fx is good the only thing wrong is the unit will not read roms. I dont know how this could of happened by just inserting then taking out the xlead. I want to try to get this figured out before i ship it off for a 75 benchfee just to look at. I iwsh i had another unit so i could check the roms but i dont even know anyone around here with a rack. The manual offers no info and i could not find anything on the web i have been digging for hours. Well if neither rom works in any of the 4 slots, it sounds like something on the main MP7 board....was power was off when you removed/installed the roms (via the rear switch) and you didn't see or smell anything when you first powered after installing the XL7 rom the first time? Bless your heart, I know how you feel, I purchased an Audity 2000 from ebay and it was working fine and then all of the sudden no sound, well, I was feeling ripped off, but I opened it up and took the rom out and put it back in the other slot and it worked again. I don't think you have to run the diagnostics each time you try a different slot which you should have 4, the machine will recognize the rom no matter which slot it is in. Saves you alittle time anyway. I didn't see if you had tried that but maybe??? Also just know this sort of thing happens alot with all kinds of equipment. I am an equipment freak, and tons of things have fizzled out. That is just the nature of beast. Like my firewire ports on my Digi 002 board just stopped communicating and it costs $410 to replace it. That's only the tip of the iceburg, So I really know how you feel. Good luck to ya Tomtel ( the tel of the dogg ) www.stormshelterstudios.com --- jason rodgers <fsmastering@...> wrote:

I made sure the power cord was unplugged and there was no smell or even a hint that anything "fried" it looks fine to i dont see any bent pins on the board either. Thanks for the help i think i am going to have to send it in since i cannot find anyway to test it here. It's possible that you could have discharged some static into the unit when changing the ROMs. Seems pretty unlikely, but it's possible. As far as testing stuff, make sure you're nice and grounded (you could wire yourself to the chassis). I'd check so see if all the internal ribbon cables are firmly connected, ensure the pins in the ROM slots aren't bent or touching (or have something in there), etc. You can clean the contacts on the ROM with a standard pink pencil eraser. As far as the MIDI stuff, the MIDI test will fail if you don't loop a cable from in to out. Those diags were really not for the end user - they're more for manufacturing, so they aren't really user friendly. In any case, the MIDI test works by ensuring that data sent out the back comes back in the input unadulterated, thus requiring an external MIDI cable. -Aaron

Thanks Aaron i just took it up to my local music repair center the guy there has a emu rack to test the roms and says he thinks its a issue with the board he is supposed to call me later after checking it out. I highly doubt i wiped the rom chips i think i might have just knocked something loose when i opened it the unit has not been opened ever and the original owner used it live so i can imagine it might have been bumped around but it was in really good shape besides a few little scratches in the side. Lets all keep our fingers crossed for the fallen solider.
