My PX 7 Has Frozen

My PX 7 Has Frozen

2007-10-03 by Steve Humphries

I was wondering if anyone can help with this.

I was playing a patch from my PX7 when suddenly there was no sound.

I turned the unit off and then on again and all the led's light up but
then everything seems to freeze.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

The most common problem with the aging or moved xX-x series keyboard/module/command station is the seating of the sound ROM(s). My first recommendation, since power seems to be OK, is to re-seat the ROM. While the unit is open, it wouldn't hurt to verify the seating of internal interconnecting cable. Don't forget to remove turn make sure the unit is unplugged or the main unit power switch is off before working on the unit.

Try this first and we can take the next step depending on that outcome.

Hi Bob

Thanks for your advice with regards to my PX7

I've had a go at removing and then reseating the rom boards as well
as checking for any loose cables.

I have power with all the led's showing on switch on but then the unit just freezes.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve

I would try to see if you can enter diagnostics mode or if the boot sequence is stopped right at the hardware reset stage.

Diagnostics mode can be entered by holding down the right and left cursor arrow keys while powering up the unit.

See posts 18806 & 18812 for more info.

If you can't get into diagnostics mode, it is probably a hardware problem that won't be solved by a factory reset or reloading of the OS....

Any others listening have had a similar past experience......frozen on boot with all LEDs on?

Hi Bob

I've tried to enter the diagnostic stage by holding the cursor
buttons but my unit is still frozen.

I'm going to send it off for repair.

Thanks for your help.

Re: My PX 7 Has Frozen

In my case, I apparently bricked my XL-7 while, oddly enough, en route
to the repair shop to fix the data encoder. It worked at home; I put it
in my car and drove a mile to the shop and now it no longer works.

It doesn't really turn on anymore. The LCD screen just flashes with
some black boxes. No other lights turn on. All roms seem to be in place.

but hey, good thing this happened now before my liveset next month :)

RE: [xl7] Re: My PX 7 Has Frozen

I have had this as well, but then i made sure that the cables connecting
the boards were seated properly (which seemed to be fine) but when i
then closed the case and tried it again my mp-7 booted up without any
issue.

this is now about a year ago and i've had no further problems..

I just finished doing this and it's *almost* the same thing. I say
almost because it blinks on and off a few times then "Loading..."
appears on the LCD. The LCD is flickering like crazy as if power is
fluctuating. It finally just shuts off completely after a few seconds
of flickering.

I've got a different power supply ripped out of an MP-7 on the way.
It's a longshot, but maybe that's the issue.

For anyone that cares, my problem did indeed turn out to be the power
supply. I replaced it and everything is working fine now.

I hope this helps someone at some point :)

Where did you manage to get a replacement?
Also was it expensive?

I found someone selling parts from a broken command station on eBay. It
wasn't too bad: $25 USD.

Good skills ;o)

I looked for someone here in the UK and found proberly the last one
at a new price of £80 odd pounds, so thats about $164.
If anyone wants to send broken SMPS's to me l'll have a go at
repairing them for them. Im sure theres a common fault with these.
